The things you & @twenty16vibes bring up are differences between the eras but I feel like this zeitgeist should still make up a cultural context for Gen Z/A to explore creatively.
Also a bit besides the point but idk that an optimistic culture creates the most resonant art?
the power of platforms like xxl, source, 106 & park, the basement, trl, radio all helped with steering the direction of the culture, that came with its flaws too but the lack of that today i think is what makes the culture so fragmented.
also artist development, today we call them industry plants but there used to be atleast a year of artist development by the label before we even knew who the artist was.
now i prefer the DIY, decentralized system but we’ll never have artists that reach those heights again because of this.
i guess another cool thing about decentralization is that it creates niche/sub cultures so one crowd might have moments with their favorite artist ie Tyler or nba yb, it gives the artist more creative control. but we’ll never share a monocultural experience with them

i’ve probably said this a hundred times in the past few months on here but the generation today doesnt have the set of experiences that would create cultural fixtures anymore.
its almost as if the millennials (tyler, travis, kendrick) are the last generation that preserves that level of hip hop music.
time for late blooming millennials to take over then. Hov didn't drop RD till he was 30
