the new "major stars" are not actually stars. they are spoonfed to listeners through algorithms and social media platforms. they arent organic. you could even say taylor swift hasnt had an actual hit (not talking numbers here) since the shake it off and blank space days.

these white man with tattoo clones or memed to death pop girlies are not actual stars the way we used to have them. if you walked up to your average music listener and asked them to name a jelly roll, morgan wallen, or chappell roan song they wouldnt be able to tell you.

and the reason hip hop doesnt have someone like this is because I actually think your typical hip hop fan isnt swayed as easily as the masses to mindlessly let the streaming service or tik tok determine our stars and who we like. we are stubborn with how we love music.

i think that is why it's easier to pirate big time rap albums and somewhat difficult to illegally download a morgan wallen album. we love our albums and artists. other genres lend themselves more towards streaming and passive listening.
