the last mono-cultural moment in the foreseeable future is GTA6 other than that everything is fragmented culturally thanks to social media and streaming services

i dont think no monoculture itself is a bad thing, i just think its happening at a time where everyone taking short cuts and everyting is so profit driven

Of all of the reasons listed in OP, somehow Wale’s is the worst

yea i guess we used to niggas coming out the gate on some legendary s***. atleast thats how it used to be

When Drake debuted we knew exactly what it was, when Ye debuted it was a moment

aint nobody coming out with bodies of work that stand the test of time like that

    standards are different now

Hmmmm. The biggest difference is that the guys with hits out of the gate were usually already in the industry or working overtime with music. A lot of these new guys blowing up are literally learning as they go along with the s***s.

another thing outside of politics and social media, although social media is a big reason is art nowadays feels bad on all front. Theatres are barely a thing anymore. Game development is trash, theres no real big progress and optimization is getting worse somehow. For every helldivers 2 or good game you got another s***ty cod game etc.

literally no art is peaking rn

when was the last time you went to a theater

genuine question bc you seem to have thought about this already

what are the set of experiences that Gen Z / earliest Alphas haven't gone through that the millenials did?

Going outside and playing outside. You don't hear kids play outside or hang outside making memories due to the internet and new age parents keeping everyone inside.

Niggas want classic albums or bust from the new niggas instead of seeing the vision and watching them develop

So they get called ass and discarded

Didn’t almost every legend come out the gate swinging with either a classic or very high quality body of work?

    NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted
A Tribe Called Quest - People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
    Dr. Dre - The Chronic
    Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
    Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
    Biggie - Ready to Die
    OutKast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
    Nas - Illmatic
    Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Eminem - The Slim Shady LP
    Clipse - Lord Willin’
    Kanye - The College Dropout
50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin’
    Kendrick Lamar - Overly Dedicated
    Drake - So Far Gone
    J. Cole - The Come Up
Nicki Minaj - Beam Me Up Scotty

All of these projects are either classic studio albums or very high quality mixtapes

i think he's saying the difference is now that with the internet etc artists first mixtapes are up on spotify so its easier to write them off earlier.

where 50 had streets jams going crazy years before grodt

Yes, but in a way no, they came out swinging to the PUBLIC with classics, they had to grind it out with no internet for years with no one seeing them be ass

These days everyone sees you from the beginning

Like I said earlier if someone dropped “skateboard nigga” or “bitch I’m in the club” today it would tarnish them forever

Back then you could drop mixtapes and hone your craft without anyone knowing, and when a label thought you were ready then you would drop your debut, but you put your 10k hours in

These days everyone’s 10k hours are on camera
