How much of that 70% is the result of zoomers rediscovering songs on tik tok?
was literally just about to say this lmao
What do you expect ?
Rappers are resorting to twerking on Satan, making overly provocative music videos and putting basically eveything on gimmicks, memes and controversies to sell records because the music can't speak for itself.
That bubblegum pop s*** got old and these pop stars are incapable of reinventing themselves, so they're trapped in a dying format and are forced now more than ever to steal from other genres to make their music more interresting.
Music listeners aren't dumb they know most of the songs being shilled today is soulless garbage.
Yea

Music videos have been considered “overly provocative” since Elvis danced with his hips on tv lmao
This doesn’t necessarily mean that the market has changed
Previously when people listened to old music there wasn’t anything that tracked it - I.e. if you listen to a CD 100 times that doesn’t get counted as extra sales
Because it now does we’re only just finding out how much people listen to new vs old music
And the reason the market share is changing over recent years is that the people who are joining streaming services now are older less tech savvy people who skew heavily heavily toward listening to old music
Maybe that sounds like hopium about the industry but music industry revenues are the highest in history rn I don’t think this is indicative of people being checked out of new music I think it’s indicative of a music scene where longevity is rewarded and there are hundreds of thriving micro-niches rather than a small group of huge songs
This was bound to happen. When the music industry decided to focus on formulas to make cheap hits with no longevity, they set the clock for their own demise. With the internet providing a resource for music from a time when artistry mattered, people are reaching back in time for quality music. I feel very bad for new artists, though, because they really are screwed.
There's even a demand for classic mixtapes to be on streaming too. Says alot to me
because new music just isn’t as good these days
that’s all there’s to it
No because theres way more old music lmao

People just like everything to be in 1 place. Nobody tryna download a tape or use datpiff
I overlooked those points. Interesting I wonder if this is an outlier due to the circumstances of the world lately maybe trying to find comfort in old familiarity? Or is this a trend of what to expect moving forward
Pretty much what I came to say
People just like everything to be in 1 place. Nobody tryna download a tape or use datpiff
Just adds to the point to me
I would also add people are just more pent up and distracted from focusing on new releases like they have in the past
And some of the venues where folks would’ve found a new artist in person and then peeped their s*** are reduced hours or reduced contact or just aren’t open. There’s just so many realms of existence that currently inhibit “new” experiences
Not to mention that virtually everyone and every company that has stock in lists/recaps spent late 2019, 2020 and even some of 2021 recapping the previous decade of music
