i can only sleep 6 hours in a row max. would love to do 8 full hours
This week I've been waking up after 5 hours and then unable to fall back asleep, that was the inspiration for this thread!
Big tip is to not oversleep since that always makes you feel more tired. There's a sleep calculator online that tells you when to go sleep according to the time you want to wake up and it's based on our sleep cycles where we move between being in deep and shallow sleep I forgot the name...
Yep I've been looking into this too! I've got some f***ed up chronic sinus issues so been scared to tape my mouth shut, but I guess tonight is the night.
My brother has the same thing. When we used to share a room when I was younger he used to annoy the f**k outta me because he always slept first, so id have to try to sleep to his snoring lmao

Melatonin + magnesium gang
Tried both melatonin worked but heard you aren’t supposed to take it too much/be on it for a while. I also don’t think magnesium did anything for me could of been a s*** brand tho. My sleep schedule is f***in’ terrible lol

Keeping my phone away from my bed at all times made a huge improvement to my sleeping. I make a rule now to never ever lie in bed with a phone or do anything in my bed other than sleep. That way your brain associates your bed with only sleep.

Damn man don't do that.. Don't even LOOK at the clock! More tips will follow in OP!

Yeah you shouldn't become dependent on stuff like that. It's good to always try and change behaviors before supplementing with d****.

You got a firm mattress? That’s the best for back sleeping. Make sure you keep your back straight and it’ll feel natural

yessir, firm ass tempurpedic. I think i need an eye mask and maybe go to sleep with some airpods. i am so accustomed to halving 50% hearing if that makes sense with one ear in the pillow, and dark visuals from looking into the wall/sheets and not the room around me.

back sleeping with no pillow is peak. we already spend too much time with our neck leaned forward, a pillow just exacerbates that. unfortunately I dont really have any tips beyond just try to do it again and again and again, eventually your body will adapt. i focus on slow deep breaths into my low belly and then before i know it im out
Here's a great video on what to do and what not to do if you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night.

I also recommend that if you struggle with falling asleep in the first place to start ritualizing your sleep to a higher degree. Make a cup of herbal tea and sip on that as you do some gentle sleep yoga. Just 10 or so minutes focused on the body and the breath to really slow down and get out of your own head in preparation for a wonderful rest.

If you still find yourself lying in bed for 20-30 minutes and focused on how you're still not able to fall asleep, get up and do some more stretches, put on some calming music, make another cup of tea, and then try to sleep again. The more you lie in bed awake, unable to sleep, the more you are training yourself to lie in bed, awake, unable to sleep. It's gonna be tough at first but eventually you'll reshape your relationship with your bed and soon enough you'll be falling asleep in less than 10 minutes every time.
I also find that just journaling for a few minutes before bed helps me get thoughts out of my head that might stir up anxiety, better allowing me to let go of the waking reality and slip into the dream world.
Something I also do if I wake up within an 30-60 minutes of my alarm going off (yes I look at the clock lol) is to just get up. Then I have extra time in the morning to relax to the highest degree possible. It's not extra time to get more work done or be more productive, it's extra time to simply enjoy the human experience.
GOOOOOOD MORNING!!
another sleeping tip fellas (it may not apply to you)
make sure you are nasal breathing throughout the night!
if you mouth breathe at night you are A) letting your nose (which is an organ in and of itself) atrophy for hours on end, causing your nasal passages to slowly shrink which leads to even more of a tendency to mouth breathe as it becomes harder to get air through the nose and B) you are losing a TON of water via evaporation of the mouth and throat causing you to wake up dehydrated, feeling like you just went 3 rounds with poatan 🗿
when I made the change to nasal breathe at night it was incredible, I was waking up like a cartoon character stg just BAM upright and alert in a millisecond.
if you find it difficult at first to keep your mouth closed get a lil roll of fabric based medical tape and rip off a little ~1x2cm piece and put it vertically across the front of your lips. you can still open your mouth and talk like this, it's just a little cue to keep it closed. I did that for a couple weeks and bam, now I don't have to do it at all.
and on days when your nose might be clogged you can practice this nose unclogging protocol before bed. additionally you can get those nasal strips that go over your nose to help crank it open. worst case scenario (I only do this when I'm sick) you can use a nasal spray to open your nose. but DONT do this for more than 10 days because your nose will become dependent on it and then when you quit it will be like a freeway at 5pm in dtla for the same amount of days you used it. always modify behaviors before taking d****!
remember, the more you use it the more it will open. I've been focusing on nasal breathing for a couple years now after reading James Nestors book Breathe and now my nose is wide open probably 95% of the time!
and if you find your nose is sore and dry at night now this means you gotta A) drink more water! and B) possibly invest in a humidifier
This reminds me I need to finish that book
