okay so it sounds like it isn’t a RAM issue then

that’s normal for the GPU to be at 100% in a lot of games what’s the GPU memory or VRAM at though

Idek how to check im not home rn to look but lmk n ill check!

yeah 16GB isn’t enough these days, you probably just are running out of memory

you can just add another 8GB stick if your motherboard has a slot, honestly 8GB more is probably enough but you could buy 2. if your motherboard only has two slots you’ll have to replace them though.

you should try find RAM that’s the same as what’s in there. same brand, speed and timing. if it’s a little off it will still work though.

    huh? cpu z is free

honestly it might not be as fast but if you aren’t over clocking your ram it’s probably good, you could just buy a stick of this and install it and it should work looking up the mobo specs

the GPU running at 100% is normal bro

if it’s not crashing now and running you’re good, you obviously just needed 4GB more of RAM

as long as the GPU memory or VRAM isn’t full you’re fine, the GPU cores being at 100% while gaming just means you’re using 100% of the power of the GPU

which is normal in a lot of games cause most games get bottlenecked by that 80% of the time i find

still happens to me with a RTX 5090 in plenty of titles the fastest GPU money can buy

yeah that actually makes sense! which is why I recommended buying some before buying a whole new GPU, either probably would have fixed the issue but ones far cheaper

in 2025 i feel like the bare minimum for playing modern games is 24GB of RAM and at least 8GB of VRAM. a lot of new games still claim 16GB is fine, but that’s assuming you’re not also running Discord, Chrome, or any other extra launchers in the background. that extra stuff is probably what’s pushing you over.

VRAM (video memory), RAM (regular computer memory), and your SSD (persistent memory) are all linked. they flow into each other when one gets full, like a waterfall basically.

if your VRAM starts to fill up, the system shifts some of the load to your RAM. that’s normal in small bursts, but if it happens too much, performance tanks, because RAM is way slower than VRAM. if your RAM fills up, the system falls back to the SSD, which is even slower, and if too much data starts swapping around like that, things almost always crash. by adding RAM you stopped it from using the SSD.

since your system has low VRAM, the extra RAM is probably carrying more weight. i had a setup with 16GB of RAM and it ran fine, but only because i had a 24GB VRAM GPU. when i swapped that for a 10GB GPU, stuff started crashing and i couldn’t figure it out at first. eventually i realized i’d lost 14GB of VRAM, and my RAM couldn’t handle the difference. once i upgraded the RAM to make up for it, no more crashes.

For now I’m good unless I try to run at higher graphics and I have issues then I’ll upgrade

yeah exactly, those old GPUs still work fine at lower settings in most games, I was using a GTX 760 4GB in one of my PCs I had near my TV for years until it died lol

i just upgraded 2 months ago

I have a couple computers, some I use more like servers for AI/3D rendering tasks, I have a 3 RTX 3090 setup for that

then i was running a RTX 3080 10GB since 2020 in my main gaming pc

    now i have

    AMD 9700X3D
    Nvidia RTX 5090
    32GB RAM

I got the RTX 5090 mainly for doing AI image & LLM tasks, if I didn't earn money from consulting in the past from this stuff it would be hard to jusfify the cost of the 5090 but it games great never had a GPU that was this fast basically plays everything near maxed settings at 4k 144hz honestly insane lol

if you can get a good price for the 9060 xt 16GB that would be a nice upgrade, probably would be buying one if i didn’t have all this hardware from AI

i do most my gaming on a S90D Samsung QD-OLED TV

Nvidia and AMD putting out new “midranged” 8GB GPUs in 2025 when it’s like a couple dollars of vram

these cards are gonna be unusable in new games in 2-3 games they hate gamers lol

lowkey regret my build i had a ryzen 5800x put inside a NZXT H1 and it gets loud as f*** man lmao

what ended up happening was I think my AIO cooler included with the case was struggling bad on reddit many were saying theirs died after 2-4 years. so i wanted to switch it out for a fan but wasnt in stock and i wasnt going to wait so just put everything in a new case. meant i had to buy a new PSU cause the cables were too short
