the fun part (for me) is when it gets real nerdy. like I want a vintage tank but it has to be a tank Louis from a specific year so it has a specific movement in it and size. then for the rich folk they can pick between whether the tank was made in Paris, or in London which has a huge price variation.
in Rolexes it gets as wild as a little symbol on the dial that you barely notice.
then there’s military issue watches and all the interesting things that come with them.
it’s a cool hobby if you like to be a nerd. for other people it’s just jewelry and that’s okay too.
yeah like people go crazy on rolexes over the markings at 6 o'clock. is it swiss made, swiss t < 25, etc. early ceramic GMTs had the colors slightly different

I understand it moreso as like a hobby thing
But I just meant for the most part the reason people buy expensive watches is because other people will see that they have expensive watches
I doubt rich guys as a whole are just all weirdly obsessed about like the mechanics and craftsmanship of watches
