i do something to challenge myself in the gym usually going beyond total failure when i feel im in a rut to hype myself back up
like once i totally fail out i do half reps until i cant do that and then i take the weight down and do the same thing and keep going like this until i feel like im LOCKED IN

Seems fine. Eases you in and gradually increases calorie expenditure. It’s all low impact so low chance of injury. He mentions “as long as your diet is in check” which is really the most important thing
