Rock Cries too
both produced by Olof Melander... need to peep his album with Moor Mother f***
Well worth the money. Copped it about a week ago after I could not stop listening to Maroons. Less conventional of course but very interesting.

They say it doesn’t get cold how it used to, but I'm colder and colder
Stripped trees, the ground red and golden
Sky clear, crisp, clean
Sun out but the moon's still there tracking over my shoulder
Breath frozen, James Lofton
Words live in the air, books is coffins
She scorned him
Saw it coming but I didn’t care, unstoppable forces
We was young, we ran like horses
It's another painting hidden under the portrait
I won for every nxxxa who had to forfeit
Dumbed out, I wasn't smart enough to quit
Afternoons, wander the catacombs
Tomes lined the room
Every room a tomb, every shelf hoarding doom
I kissed her in the stacks under the biblioteca
Just once
Tasted like sweet peppers and blunts, peppermint gum
“Words live in the air, books is coffins” is now my favorite woods line
sorry for being the one for always asking the meaning, but what does that mean?
also these lines

To me, words living in the air refers to human language being alive and fluid, mobile, and changing, whereas books are coffins for words because in books, words are static, sometimes forgotten, and unchanging.
And in that last line, “biblioteca” means “library” in Spanish, so he kissed a girl by the stack, or bookshelf, and recalls the tastes of the kiss

Yeah this is definitely one of his best features
Some dope photos of woods and Elucid by Alexander Richter, who did the Paraffin cover among other AH-related work

Looking forward to the BRASS instrumentals
Giraffe Hunts is a superior beat
Imagine letting a day go by without listening to any billy woods
Couldn't be me

There needs to be a Moor Mother thread on here. I swear she made a project for every music fan this year...

unbelievable
Call Out Culture podcast episode is up. These cooking metaphors
Listening now... woods is always a fool in these interviews
Did my first close read of Brass, mainly focused on the sonics and structure of the tracks. I'd heard everything already just not in one sitting with dedicated attention. Favorite tracks are The Blues Remember Everything The Country Forgot, Scary Hours, and Giraffe Hunts. Gonna focus more on the text now that I got my bearings.
Excerpts from note regarding what the production evokes:
"Vietnamese jungle with charlie circling; there's a rattlesnake in your bunk"
"Beat kind of downtrodden and being funny about it"
"Beat another dangerous void full of jagged metal and eyes in the dark"
"sounds like predators circling your dwindling fire in the wasteland"

Is “Beat kind of downtrodden and being funny about it” Gang For A Day?
Yo how crazy is Giraffe Hunts? Alchemist, man
I will say the record really demands a focused, sit-down listen. Definitely one of the more inaccessible, dense woods records, especially with what Moor Mother provides lyrically.

It was for Guinness, but the beats do all really fit together. How often does an Alchemist pull feel like it belongs on a record? lol. Crazy how he has those different background pieces as Billy and Moor switch off. Reflecting that in the production is nuts. Or maybe they just recognized it and played it right. Either way, love a good back and forth.
I thought Moor would be providing some contrast with some lighter musical touches or whatever, and he does provide contrast in his delivery and energy, but he really keeps up on the rapping end. They always play off each other on transitions. All the features feel right too. That John Forte part on Scary Hours is transcendent.
Gonna be a while before I really have a hold on the lyrical content. Best part of these records.
