His beats are good but like I said they bring nothing new to the table

They fit Drake’s style & that’s my problem, OZ is a “safe” producer for Drake because his production is generic

He’s not bad but he’s not special at all

I agree with for as much as I've liked his production
I do wish there was more flavor that you wouldn't hear anywhere else like what NWTS had like the melody could be recognized but the instrumentation sounds unique

Aside from that, whenever Drake takes chances, it mostly turns out great. Those basic ass beats are his comfort zone and he loves having several of them on his albums and all they do is bring the energy of the album down and make it more repetitive and derivative of things he's done before.

I agree that Drake could do better, and this track reminds me of Losses (although it’s not finished), I actually think this song would sound better inside an album flow. Probably would be one of the weaker tracks, but if this was on the album, I think where he places it would definitely impact the energy it brings. Like this could be a great chill track after a bar heavy emotional Drake

I should probably find a way to let it go
Wonder what it was that turned you this cold
Said you left me jaded and I wasn't joking
Miss the way it was a couple years ago
Back when we was young and now you've outgrown me
Hard to just accept I was a steppin' stone

This is how I feel too but he’s growing on me a bit

I’m not too fond of the song, but the instrumental for Gold Roses is out of this world

I also don’t think that Oz is necessarily a safe producer, it’s moreso Drake’s beat selection imo

I think the problems lies with Drake, he’s too scared to take big jumps because an album full of left field songs might not appeal to a certain portion of his fanbase

Since Views we’ve been getting the bloated projects with 3 to 4 variations of Drake’s repetitive styles with 1 or 2 new sounds because he wants to appeal to everyone

I’m sure it has something to do with him wanting to stay on top as long as possible which is ironically doing more bad than good since his music is slowly becoming predictable

Hopefully he proves us wrong with this next project

I think you may be right, Drake’s beat selection may be the problem

The thing with OZ is he feels more like another 40, I feel like Drake chose him specifically because he can replicate 40’s signature style down to the T which is awful

Gold Roses sounds like it was produced by 40

i mean he said in the interview with Elliott Wilson that he clashes his old song with new ones, hence why the songs on all his project thematically similar

Yea he has to appeal to like 20 different demographics, so the chances of us getting a shorter album with tons of left-field songs isn't likely

Someone can leak a song that's just static with a generic drum pattern while labelling it as a Drake song and some of you will call it the best Drake song ever, lmao.

Heard u say u over me, is that so?

This is why i don't blame him for making long albums

And that’s the problem, he should just make the music rather than trying to appeal to everyone

Because drake drops a project and people just pick the songs they enjoy then toss the album to the side

This might sound crazy but I think Drake has the potential to make a modern day Thriller

Not saying Drake is MJ level but he has the potential to make a concise album full of absolute innovative smashes enjoyable from front to back just like Thriller

this never came out because the album's not out yet dumbass

Oh yeah I’m making an assumption that his team is leaking these.

If this is on the album it’s a skip for me. Listening to it all day today though to see if something clicks.

  • Jun 24, 2020

Damn this song really is bringing out interesting conversation about our thoughts and hopes as fans for the direction of the album

Do you guys listen to hear or listen to regurgitate bs he said that in listening to Scorpion he was focused on creating a double album that looking back some of the songs could’ve been cut down. More Life took risks and was hated for those risks same with Views tbh. Whatever s*** you came up with isn’t what he said.

Of all his peers Drake isn’t the one who doesn’t take creative risks, you guys learnt the word bloated in 2018 and have been bending it out of shape ever since.

You literally don’t get it, Drake said he makes albums to appeal to all demographics of his fanbase because his fans is really diverse

He said it in a written interview pre Views era

making music for different demographic isn't a bad thing, he's been doing this since SFG. his versatility is why he has diverse fan. his project will always be polarizing regardless

That's why his albums since Views felt like a playlist, where it wasn't really cohesive and the projects felt like a continuation of the predecessor. Hopefully this one should be a change

“ took risks but people hated them “

One Dance, Controlla, Tuscan Leather, Vital, Feel No Ways, Keep The Family Close & Childs Play are all universally acclaimed songs, all in which Drake went left field

    What’re you talking about @BBeauty ???

Scorpion received hate because it was a bloated project, views received hate due to the song writing in most of his rap songs being lazy & uninspiring

That’s a real issue that he faces due to the fact that he appeals to so many people. At this point if you’re still expecting him to cater to your particular tastes only, you need to stick to listening to his old albums.

I personally like introspective & R&B Drake that’s more my personal tastes but I don’t expect him to do an entire album of Gold Roses and Fire & Desires it’s not realistic he will have those catchy songs, he will have those club bangers expecting anything else at this stage when you know full well you ain’t getting that is setting yourself up for unnecessary disappointment.
