both Kanye and Pharrell have this thing of being too advanced and “forward thinking” to revisit their 2000’s sound/aesthetic but they remain stuck in their general post 2016 sound/aesthetic lol

A Neptunes run with their 2000’s sound would put them right back where they were and it’s mysterious as to why they stopped doing that sound to begin with, something about Chad taking time off which is where that run of beats like money maker and blue magic came from that didn’t have the typical Neptunes sound

Exactly. Pharrell has acted like this for so long, and I know it has to be extremely annoying for any of the new artists that have been dying to work with him and actually get the chance to. I know it was killing Tyler because even in the Cherry Bomb doc Pharrell wasn't trying to rap like his old self even a little bit. Kevin is another Neptunes stan. I know he had to be super let down with this beat. Somehow Brent got somewhat of the old Neptunes vibe from him, he got lucky. On multiple occasions Pharrell has mentioned that "he appreciates the new artists that trust his vision for them and don't try to impose". Like yo... They want the signature Neptunes sound. The bridges, the chords, the Korg guitar and strings, etc. Nobody wants these overwhelming 808s and a lazy hi-hat pattern from you. Nobody is coming to Pharrell for a "trap bop". Bring the ethnic drums back and do your thing. It'd take over again.
