kinda decent album it really picked up in the second half, sons was my favorite off first listen
that song where he was calling himself the crypto scarface gotta be one of the worst nas songs tho
âCrypto Scarfaceâ
It was pretty funny getting to NY state of mind pt 3 and hearing âayo preemâ put on that Billy Joelâ
idk where madlib is rn after the la fires but im still holding out for a madlib x nas album one day
This was. Ok. Only bad beat was my state of mind 3. I donât know what he was thinking with that one. A lot of the beats also felt kinda like premier type beats. Just missing that spark he usually brings that people canât copy.

Personally looking for a Pete Rock one
manâŚthese beats just sound suspicious. Untrustworthy ass beats. Wtf were they thinking on NY State of Mind pt 3?
Casually listened through one time
Few pockets I really liked but overall meh
Azealia banks shoutout
Im really sad to say that because Preemo is a legend but these beats are not it

How was this surprising to any of yall? I had said this before the album came out, and really, you could have seen this coming if you had been listening to DJ Premier and his style for the last 10 years.
Pete Rock, who did just drop last year with Common
The beats on there were the same as here tbh. A lot of the east coast 90s producers have that same overly clean, sterile slow style now that just don't knock
Nas rapping on this is outstanding. The beats are really hit or miss. Some of them are solid, but it's a lot that are just very underwhelming or just plain ass.
Like what the f*** is that NY State of Mind Pt 3 s*** man?

Noo i think these are way more sterile, stiff and sauceless. It's mostly in the drums to my ears. These older people just totally lose their taste in drums and how to mix stuff. It may because they're now using newer software and just don't know how to freak it.
To me the Pete Rock album still sounded vibrant and had a lot of personality and showed technical command over how to actually make s*** sound and chop samples etc. Same with Q tips beats on last tribe / last LL cool j.

I like the verses on that crypto joint but yeah lol

Crypto Scarface is comedy
2 separate things confirmed
1. Hit-Boy got better albums out of Nas than Ye AND Preemo
2. De La Soul had the best Mass Appeal album this year
