there is no lie of independence in the music industry. you are apart of the misinformed public who has now gotten a little bit of info and acting like its some wild revelation. if you studied the game long enough you know that the folks running the "independents" today worked for the majors yesterday. same people, same connects, same formula just less easily accessible resources but they still eventually get into the same rooms and on the same stages as everyone else, its always been like this. rarely does anything just come out of absolutely nowhere in the entertainment industry. its all grandfathered in and trickled down.
allegedly kevin was dropping solo music before brockhampton music too
but yall didn't hear it from me...
"its just funny that the connection between eminem and 50 cent and tyler and brockhampton is much more obvious even if fans wanna feel 'different' about their music tastes"
The "connection" is that Clancy used to be a high value manager at Interscope in the early 2000s so he was involved with 50 Cent & Eminem's career.
In the late 2000s he left Interscope because he felt like his job was almost all business without any focus or appreciation for the art/artists. He wasn't enjoying his career anymore. So he started his own managment firm with his wife, and began seeking out new, interesting, and nascent trend artists himself and applied all of his experience from being a top Interscope manager to make sure the artists he signed onto would have the best shot at being successful.
Yes, he has managed all those 2010s artists. And he also pours everything into them and doesn't spread himself thin with tons of simultaneous clients like most major label managers do. If you go back and watch press/media videos from Odd Future's initial come-up — from minor interviews like with Nardwuar, all the way to performing on late night TV — Clancy is right there with them every step of the way. He's enjoying his career and chasing artists that he thinks are interesting, and he knows how to make them successful.
It's been years since I gave a s*** about Tyler, but when an artist like him, who is so annoyingly self-satisfied, has made multiple songs where he shoutouts Clancy, talks about him in interviews, and has grown close to their family enough to go to Clancy's daughter's graduation — that should tell you how much this manager invests himself in the careers of his clients. That's a major contributing factor for why his management company and his artists all see success quicker than the average label-managed artist.
You guys really don’t understand how this s*** works. Yes they got a manager, they attracted attention off the strength of their solo catalogs + All American Trash mixtape + LA connections. Nobody blows up without a team

Meh, I think it's cool info either way (if the info is true). It's one thing to know artists don't spawn out of thin air, it's another to know who are the movers and shakers behind it all. That's literally always been a cool thing to know.
thats not my issue, its that they seem to be insinuating they were planted lol

"Did yall know that most MLB players literally come from this entire system of multi-class leagues below MLB?? Like players are there for years and years, and the MLB teams just picks the best ones from there. They want us to believe these players have some kind of organic come up, but when you realize this fact, it really starts to make sense how so many names on these teams just seem to pop up and appear on jerseys. People dont realize how deep this plant s*** goes"
