I get it’s easy to not have any sympathy for players who are making hundreds of thousands of pounds a week, but expecting a club wide lack of ambition to not trickle all the way down to on-pitch performance is a bit naive.
He’s also presumably not the only one who feels this way. Granted, it was said in the middle of the summer and without any kind of malice, but both Shaw and Maguire talked about how they were going to be excited to see the club invest in their positions… and then that obviously didn’t happen.
I get that but playing against 10 man teams and not capitalising is insane. We still have quality players in the squad and teams we should be beating

Spot on tbh, it’s also consecutive managers they haven’t invested in, which must be a slap in the face to them considering they exceeded expectations last season.
whoever controls the pre-match music at your next game should drop cult of personality by living colour for lisandro
This f***ing Amazon doc they must be delighted with what they are capturing at the moment

Just seen that Yoro red card, soft as s***. A lot of questionable red cards lately.
Definitely soft, but one of those where if the other way around, we’d be fuming if it wasn’t given. I also didn’t agree with the handball
It’s very funny to me how, window after window, we’re told in June/July to expect a massive summer, and then once August and beyond hits suddenly it’s… “the money just isn’t there 🥺.”

The filming crew while getting this generational content:

Club sent a briefing out to Sky that Martinez wanted a move to Atletico over the summer but didn’t get it and that’s why he’s fuming
Shameless deflection.

My problem is not even on spending
Its who we spend it on
We only have 1 player who's considered world class, and its very much debatable
After spending close to, if not, $1B in transfers

The Mbuemo/Cunha/Sesko/Lammens window was about as good as it gets for them I reckon
Even then not enough was done with such a terrible squad at the time

An instant world class player these days is at least 100 mil and we’ve never spend that ever on any player while all our competitors have paid this multiple times, and little chance we’re spending that any time soon

Yep
The only way we’ll be truly competitive under INEOS and Glazers is if get some more wonderkids come through (“JJ Gabriel” has set an awful precedent) and/or the players we sign which will be in that sort of 40-60m price range end up being way better than expected

Wouldn't it have made more sense to spend £300M over 3–4 summers on 2–3 genuinely world-class players?
I genuinely believe a squad with an elite n9/n10, a world-class midfielder, and a bunch of average-to-good players would still be more competitive than what we currently have.
Having 2–3 genuine difference-makers would probably have made us far more competitive than spreading nearly £1B across a squad with very little world-class quality to show for it.
My conclusion from all this is that we really squandered the Pogba years.
My interest in this season is rapidly waning. Club is a circus, the league and the CL have really lost their lustre and the football, even as a neutral, isn't compelling these days.
