U gotta play some footy to what was that
Weird choice for a single but I'm hoping in the context of the album it will make more sense
A lot of people forget the negative reactions to Solar Power as a single ..

it's okay one day you guys will grow up and let go of Melodrama/PH nostalgia
then this'll get appreciated correctly

I mean lol they are vastly superior to anything she's done since

Yep this is so much better

not really. pure heroine is an amazing debut but people act like melodrama is some perfect masterpiece when it's honestly not (bc nostalgia). songwriting & vocals on these new tracks are easily as good if not better. she's not making the same type of teenager pop she was on pure heroine so comparisons to that are useless. people need to let artists grow

You not thinking melodrama is a masterpiece doesn't change the fact it's one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the century. It's literally her opus atp in time.
These songs aren't even bad they just don't evoke anything

they evoke a lot in me so you're alone in that. I love her writing style and expressiveness on these singles a lot, and the songs feel more organic. they're very emotional. and it's funny you say that about the universal critical acclaim cus people didn't like the singles at the time, I was there . why is it so crazy to think that could happen again? a lot of first listens especially for singles are tainted with expectations and the burden of the last project and the context of the artist's career they're released in. people didn't like Green Light because it was a big change for her sound and people were uncomfortable with it at first

Yes people didn't really like green light all that much but liability was definitely acclaimed.
Moty sounds close to the same tempo and vibe of solar power, what was that sounds like a knockoff green light in some regards and some of the lyrics sound way too forced

we'll just have to disagree on this, I love the lyrics. they don't sound forced to me they sound honest and direct. she's not playing with the same pop blueprint she was on melodrama and keeping it so structured lyrically & song structure wise

Oh I've been here before
I legit have hope this could come together as an album experience but I do fear she's attained a kind of celebrity bubble lack of self-awareness and has lost touch with what made her work so unique and interesting
this is a good song but idk why she thought this would be a good single lol
this is a deep album cut if I’ve ever heard one lol

Funny to read that again:
« There’s someone I want you to meet.
Her feet are bare at all times. She’s sexy, playful, feral, and free. She’s a modern girl in a deadstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many. I’m completely obsessed with her, and soon you will be too. »
And then it turned out that the whole Solar Power persona was just that…a persona to hide an internal crisis. I genuinely hope she found herself, but in the hollow vibes I get from these singles, it sounds like she’s once again forcing a narrative on herself. This time transparency can serve as another veil.
I do hope the record will flow better than Solar Power, though. What Was That sounds safe and Man of the Year is a deep cut, an interlude.

This the main thing
As a person no one is qualified to comment on anything going on with her life but musically it's like she's just trying to force herself to be something for the sake of music
