i cannot defend Rebirth though. Can't and won't. The closest smidge of a defense would be it was an attempt at something different
Yeah Wayne has zero classic albums, hella classic verses and songs but his quality is all over the place
I really dont care that much about overall discography vs a peak stretch/run
No musician who stays active and releasing for 25 years straight is going to have a good discography for the most part. No one is knocking Bruce Springsteen about the last like 25 years of his albums, I love prince but hes got like 40 albums and a lot of them aint s*** lol.
Yeah this also plays a role, at a certain point when you dropping this many projects it’s hard to just objectively say this project is ass imo. Especially when artists attempt to put albums under different creative directions. I tend to find more diamonds among the rough when I’m going through an artist with large discogs
I’m going off of the title saying that his album discography being shaky=him being “the most overrated goat” which seems to take away from him some
In the vid, he says he still considered wayne top 10. But he just weighs albums higher ranking wise and not mixtapes because there's more song making and labor involved with making albums.
I dont necessarily agree but it's a valid take

From a rapper stand point theres not if anything its the opposite because you have more freedom to choose what you rap over without worrying about clearances
Thinking mixtapes arent original creations????
U crackers disgust me with yall hip hop opinions
Crazy to say that in 2025 when rappers been putting mixtapes together with “original creations for like 15 years now
Its time for people to stop acting like mixtapes are a lower art form than albums
Plenty mixtapes better than albums. And dont talk about the "other peoples beat" s***
First and all, if a nigga raps great over them who cares this is HIP HOP. Also plenty original beats on them like tell me why Kush & OJ has to be deemed inferior because it was released as a mixtape
I don’t think mixtapes are a lower art form but they’re a different art form
Im talking full blown rapping on other niggas beats type mixtapes. Its like a different league. I dont ever really compare albums and mixtapes and mixtapes arent even what they used to be but imo in the 2000s it was essential to be good at mixtapes and albums. I think every rapper from that time needed at least one great mixtape under their belt
I think if we started separating how we view them more the mixtape could have more life tbh
i cannot defend Rebirth though. Can't and won't. The closest smidge of a defense would be it was an attempt at something different
Rebirth is in the same category as HNVM
It's a posthumous album obviously. But even then that's two albums. Wayne has more good albums than that
Life After Death is hardly a posthumous album
He died on the promo tour for the album he def has 2 real albums lol
How is this any different from an album song? It would be different if we were just talking about whole projects of 1- 2 min verses with no hooks.

more extreme example

From a rapper stand point theres not if anything its the opposite because you have more freedom to choose what you rap over without worrying about clearances
I mean it depends
The blog era and afterwards type of mixtape where is pretty much just an unofficial album compared to the mixtape of rapping on other beats.
I think more often than not is more labor involved with crafting a song from scratch to rapping over other beats, just off the inspiration aspect

But people still interpolate and sample past works. Sometimes waynes mixtape songs were original songs just rerecorded over another beat example Out West.

That's what I mean by it just depends. Because wayne did have original songs in that sense, but he also had a lot of songs where it's just straight rapping even using similar schemes and flows as the original
Most rappers don’t have one album as good as Carter 2/3 , how could he have one of the worst album discographies
Dumb
Of the goats
C2 & C3
C2 is cohesive but just not up to par lyrically to be considered GREAT, it’s just really good. C3 has GREAT rapping but as an album it doesn’t flow the best and there is a bunch of filler
