Dr Sleep is so good! 8.5/10

They really got Jacob Tremblay for that role?

Beautiful and very moving.. Legit shed a tear a couple of times during this movie. Banderas is so good in this, I havent watched him in years, but he brought out something incredible in this...

Close to saying hes deserving of the oscar this year.. but having just seen the movie.. recency bias and all.. yeah dno.

Carved out the time for An Elephant Sitting Still yesterday. I was very surprised at how refreshing the time length felt, given the length (just under 4hr). Probably because this is almost like a super artsy/dramatic soap opera at times, with the packing in of so many melodramatic incidents that spiral out to intervene within the various characters' web of arcs (fancy way to say it's hyperlink cinema!). The movie is certainly deserving of all its praise, even though I also believe that people feel almost obligated to be moved by something that requires this much of an investment, relative to other films. To be sure, the length and pacing does contribute to a transcendence of sorts. But the cinematographic style also deserves a nod there, because Hu Bo's adoration of the close shot allows an obvious claustrophobia to set in, but it also lets, in a surprising way, the rare long shot access to especially impactful moments of beauty. I couldn't recommend this to everyone, but it does at least feel like an event for contemporary Chinese cinema.
