Yeah idk what's going on in this thread but I came here to say I'm listening to this right now and it's blowing me away.
EDIT:
Just read OP lol. Yeah this is definitely feeling like 2020 to me.
I've also been digging 12 Songs from Home by Ludovico Einaudi, very apt for the moment.
Outside of this theme, just in general there has been so much good music this year.
Def one of my fav albums of the year
Been listening to this every day since it dropped, top 5 of the year so far for me.

Took a while to fully grow on me because I rinsed Morning After to death, love how the ending of Again flows straight into the Intro song, I'm like damn might as well play it front to back again

I need to check out that 12 Songs project too! And yes we getting blessed on the music side this year, there's still more to come that's the most exciting part
I wanted to give this a few listens through before posting my thoughts. As already mentioned, I haven't ever heard of Stereolab before, but when I went on YouTube and saw one of the comments saying that there was TVU and MBV influences, my interest was certainly piqued. Loveless is one of my favourite albums ever, so I was interested.
I think one of the first noticeable things to me is obviously, the French lyrics. For this type of dreamy guitar music, lyrics have never mattered that much to me, so the French works well in creating a unique atmosphere. I don't know any French, but I know what the singer is saying, if that makes sense. It is one of these weird albums that despite never hearing before, sounds super familiar to me, probably due to their influence. I definitely hear Blur in them, and they were one of my favourite childhood bands.
I think for me the beginning of the album is super strong, tracks 2 and 3 are wicked. Laetitia Sadier is cool as f***. However, I think the album does ultimately suffer from a trope which many albums of similar genres do: the length. On more than one occasion, I found myself, while enjoying the song, wishing that it would finish and move to the next one. I'm not really sure of the purpose of minute long outros, they don't really do much for me. Ironically, I don't have quite the same complaint for Jenny Ondioline, despite it's crazy 18 minute length, I think it fits the album well.
I think ultimately, while I defo like this album, it isn't one I will return to frequently. Repetitive tunes are okay, but I'm not sure it was performed in the best way here for me. I much prefer like Beach House style if that makes sense. However, I do acknowledge the influence this band clearly had, although I haven't read enough to know if it is from this album in particular.
Overall: 6/10
Best Tracks: Our Trinitone Blast, Pack Yr Romantic Mind
Worst Tracks: Golden Ball
Damn this theme is hard
Facts,
Jan - March one of the best periods of my life ever, then Rona hit and it's been weird as f*** to straight up trash

i did think this was one of their least accessible albums, about everything after this one is more polished
good to see that you liked it though. golden ball was one of my favorite tracks, but i can see why you wouldn’t like it.

Haha for real.
I've actually never really gotten into Morning After, idk why I think a lot of other stuff was coming out and I never gave it a full chance. I loved Sept. 5th. I'll have to play Morning After in full.

It's very chill and relaxing. Great cooking/morning coffee/background music. The second song in particular has me hooked.

You gotta spin Morning After back some of the highs are incredible but I do love the varied sounds on this new album
