I don’t work 12 hour days as a software engineer because “I enjoy it” I do it because they pay me 6 figures and the harder the work the more I will get paid. Very simple concept. If they don’t pay me more, what motivation do I have to work harder?

well then maybe in this new society you won't be a software engineer.

hahaha he has a fundamental misunderstanding of human behaviour, if he fixes that he will fall into line

yeah mate, I'm going to put up with the brain damage of dealing with the general public as a GP when I can sit at home and beat my cock to achieve the exact same outcome LOL

No one will be. Or surgeons. Or any other complex job society needs that is rewarded by pay. No one will have incentive to work hard

so is it direct fulfilment of "purpose" then?

why do i slog my guts out for 40 hours a week building your houses, what do you have to offer me.

do we allocate everyone into a job that gives them goal attainment and personal satisfaction to make sure they actually do it? what if power is my reason to live?

motivating people who are PAID to work is hard enough. how do you motivate people who aren't?

People who are paid to work seems hard to you because most, if not all workers, are not paid in accordance with the value of their labor. So maybe they are naturally feeling as though they are being shorthanded and cheated.

If you're building houses for people, you get a sense of fulfillment from knowing you helped other people in your community, your labor was not attracted for the profit of others but instead for the well being of others within your community, etc.,

your understanding of human nature is so perverted by capitalism that you actually think we were put on this earth to slog away at work for however many hours a week in order to earn some salary that is not reflective of the actual value we put in?

Yes, they will. There are definitely important jobs where the majority of people work it because of the prospect that they will get paid well over doing something basic. I don’t know why this is hard to understand unless money does not motivate you at all to work hard

Can't imagine studying for 8 years and being in training for 7 years to become a brain surgeon just for fun lmao.

And then work an average of 61 hours a week. I doubt more than 1% of people would do all that because they love doing it

You don't have to go to primitive times to look for examples of people volunteering to do things for their community or helping others with "nothing' in return.

the only reason he talks like this is because he is privileged, clearly living in a world detached from reality

i just want to know how someone can think HOURS of back breaking work can be spontaneously motivated. taking years off peoples lives, ruining their quality of life in many cases - for WHAT ...??

this sense of fulfilment deal isn't looking so good

I understand that not all people have equal capabilities. But just because someone is a factory worker and someone is a brain surgeon does mean that one deserves any less than the other.

you are allowed to grow carrots (but not too many because then you might have a monopoly which would be unethical)

    that is all

Who said what someone earns as income dictates what their worth as a person in the human sense?
