When it comes to many saints i felt the casting and the performances were all really good and it was nice seeing the callbacks to the show. The plot was just really weird. It couldve been fleshed way more as a mini series type thing

Nigga I say dune cut so many scenes and all you can focus on is a cute robot. Most of dune to me feels like most scifi even if yes it was the originator in book form it doesnt feel that way in movie form because we have seen it so many times in so many ways. I am glad it had some solid worldbuilding but the protagonist for me has to do more if you loved every second of duen thats great I am happy for you and glad you enjoy it

I could focus on a dozen flawed aspects of this new Matrix sequel, try the fact that the action scenes are a complete departure from the adored choreography, cinematography and style of the previous films while still having the gall to re-use the empty shells of fight scenes people liked in the earlier films. How do you make a scene where Keanu gets lit up by a helicopter yawn-inducing? They don’t bring back Hugo Weaving and don’t even ask Fishburne to be in it, leaving out two of the biggest parts of the ensemble. The dialogue f***ing sucks to high heaven, naval-gazing zen philosophy can and did totally work when offset by iconic Hong Kong style fights and delivered by legendary performers. Pithy, beat-you-over-the-fucking-head obvious punchlines about sequal-izing IPs and how s***ty twitter is, delivered by Neil Patrick Harris and the guy from Mindhunter, does not work. Sub-Avengers tier “They fly now?” comedic dialog falls flatter than flat. I never want to see a sequel to a movie start with two characters going “This seems like an adventure we saw before… but something is different now!” Padding out the movie with clips of the original movie does not f***ing work. Resurrections thinks it’s too smart and too cool for school because it tells you up front that this movie sucks and they didn’t want to make it. Well then don’t make it! The movie has no sort of memorable color scheme, which wouldn’t be a sin except the other three movies have incredibly distinct color schemes that were wildly influential. Introducing adorable Ewok-style critters for no reason and no payoff, after just frontloading the movie observing that studios force dumb new s*** into sequels unnecessarily, is f***ing dumb. It cost nearly $200 million dollars and looks cool maybe 20% of the runtime. The cinematography is entirely forgettable, I’ve seen it twice now within 4 days and only two shot compositions stick out to me across hundreds of them. If it works as a film on any level its as a trans allegory, which is clearly the only thing about The Matrix that holds any interest to Lana. And that’s fine, but the rest of the movie shouldn’t have to suffer for it; because all the other movies were trans allegories and didn’t have these massive, awful issues. First time Neo is awoken back in the pod and instead of him being one amongst a million other pods its clear his pod and the one opposite his (Trinity) occupy a higher position in the tautology of the Matrix. Cool composition, cool set design. The sequence that followed through the tunnels of pods was also pretty cool design.

Second is when they’re in the theatre with Neo and Bugs and new Morpheus re-showing Fishburne giving Neo the pill speech the first time. There’s a shot where a break in the theatre screen on a close up of Fishburne resembles the nasal cavity of a skull. That looked cool and reminded me how much I wish Fishburne was in this goddamn movie

“A new Morpheus was there from the beginning. We knew that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss would be involved. Without them, this thing would not have been possible. But the other thing, during my brief career in the movies, I’ve learned that moviemaking, it’s a world of contingency. And so people might or might not, you know, sign on—or if they sign on, some things may change. So we did write some roles, I’m not going to give it away, but we wrote a character for someone we thought would play it and then it was not possible. And so still, we didn’t change anything radically, but we were just imagining this actor in the role. And then it turned out that it was not possible, but we didn’t change any lines with that. So that actor is still inscribed in the role.”
