I saw this one tweet where someone 30 years old said their top 3 was Soulja Boy, Chief Keef, and Carti ( think there was a thread on here about it)

what interested me wasn't the actual top 3, but the people replying saying, of course they were his favorite artists, they all popped during his formative years as someone who is 30

which made me think—do our favorite artists NEED to come from our formative years?

Is it possible for an artist to make an impact with the same kind of depth later in life as it was for artists to do it when we were 16 or 20?

Lately the only time I’ve felt like I really liked a new artist is when I listen to a different genre. I don’t get that same feeling with hip hop anymore.

I don't even know what a "favorite artist" is anymore. A lot of that stuff is tied up in nostalgia. Different music has connected with me during different periods of my life. I don't think it sounds the same without the same context. Which is fine? I'm okay with leaving it in that context for the most part. I'm looking for what connects with me the most right now.

Played the hell out of this Love Rarely album this year. Nothing scratches the same itch. It combines a ton of stuff I've enjoyed in the past in a unique, singular way. Living through peak screamo, going back to math rock and even surf. Being into girl fronted punk bands. All of that pays off here. The past adds up.

i find new favorites like every other month?

It might’ve been comethazine in the late 2010’s early 2020s. I don’t listen to him like I used to but there was a point in time i was listening to him religiously. A favorite that I still listen too consistently to this day is probably Carti. None of these new niggas excite me

prob jhus kojo funds but they both washed now that afro swing era was something special they were really gunning for each other over holiday wavy beats
