how is this a W, he's just downsizing a federal agency

Trump’s orders also create a regulatory framework for the departments of Energy and Defense to build nuclear reactors on federal land, the administration official said.
“This allows for safe and reliable nuclear energy to power and operate critical defense facilities and AI data centers,” the official told reporters. The NRC will not have a direct role, as the departments will use separate authorities under their control to authorize reactor construction for national security purposes, the official said.
It seems that they're trying to fix what is broken with this agency to ramp up nuclear production unless I'm reading the entire order wrong.
Lol
https://twitter.com/neerajadeshp/status/1926415082726027307I guess I get where she’s coming from with identifying a problem, but saying that the act of attending a 4 year college is the cause is an extremely weird take
All you have to do is look at the average salary of “Middle class jobs” (especially entry-level) and the cost of housing to see the problem. Throw in cost of living/inflation, and this generation has no chance of being independent without support from family for way longer than previous generations did
And there are totally good paying craft jobs out there that don’t require a college education, but if you’re not looking to get a craft job, there’s very few jobs that you can get for a “living wage” (which is not truly a living wage, which should tell you how bad jobs that pay less than a “living wage” are) if you don’t have at least a bachelor’s degree.
I guess you could also just argue that people should commute or do college online or w/e and just have a scaled down experience where they aren’t living in a college bubble
But if you’re saying that’s a problem distinctly relating to this generation, that’s just not accurate. Moving away to an out-of-town college and experiencing dorm life has been an American tradition for a long time now through multiple generations. And the social value from it is even more significant than the educational value imo
If anyone is being infantized in society, it’s the wealthy that just get inheritance and don’t have to start worrying about money the second after they get their degree like the rest of us.

Dont worry the only place shes coming from is doing apologia for trump and trying to ride his fake anti establishment wave

Haha real
But I guess I was also writing those posts because from what I’ve seen, it’s become a pretty common held belief among a lot of people 50+ years old these days (regardless of their thoughts on Trump) because they don’t properly understand the struggles the younger generation is facing financially

so great that nuclear is going to be used to power ai slop that displaces workers out of their jobs 🔥

Ay man I support nuclear power despite what the inspiration is at the time. Oil and gas needs to go if that is going to power Ai slop

im not against nuclear energy but with the way they're cutting regulations and downsizing a bunch of sectors that work to make sure s*** is done safely it's only a matter of time b4 something goes wrong w this
i mean i hope that something good could come out of this rather than bad but
not holding my breath

We don’t have time for nuclear power, or any large scale alternative energy for that matter but especially nuclear.
The amount of energy needed to transition is completely to alternative energies would actually create a “carbon bump” that would speed up the heating process temporarily. This is a margin of error the planet cannot afford.
The only way out is to drastically reduce our energy consumption in the west. There is no technological solution, and even if there was we can’t afford to wait for that to be rolled out on the scale that it needs to be, even disregarding the carbon bump issue.

Man rip the bandaid. We've been asking for nuclear energy and now it's too late? Company and consumer demand isn't going to stop for the average Joe without people dealing with the consequences. We need the additional energy support

Have you seen any of the recent climate data? Yeah it’s too late and nuclear in particular takes way too long to implement on a scale that would matter. This is an unbelievably urgent issue.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t attempt pursue alternative energies at all but these are not going to save us. The problem is a socio-political one not a technological one. No amount of new technologies can save the problem. We have to curb consumption on a massive scale

people are going to be dealing with the consequences (and have already depending on where you live) whether the “average Joe” wants to or not. any low-lying coastal countries and other global south countries with scarce resources already, ie the Sahel, any low lying island country in the pacific/indian ocean (Maldives, Fiji, Kiribati) are getting the worst of the effects but just because it hasn’t touch you or I yet in any meaningful way doesn’t preclude what he’s saying
the US isn't Cuba, it doesn't have a national energy shortage creating a massive existential problem for the entire system. nuclear power is an incredible tool for the underdeveloped but the US requires a thorough decolonization to stop polluting on a massive scale.
