@ryder this little korean documentary is 37 minutes long and a better source anyway, since it is from a korean filmmaker who risked a lot to release it

I always recommend blowback though because it also has entertainment value as far as the level of production goes mixed in with the historic aspect
Edit: Just finished the doc, its pretty solid and worth the watch.

I got you
Who tf views NK as a modern day ussr? redditors? Why were you projecting that onto people who didnt even say that
I dont even know why youre worried about infighting if youre saying s*** like that you got other things to worry about
"redditors" in 2025 is the same ring as "facebookers." Millions and millions of people use these sites.
These conversations occur all over the internet and have been for almost a decade. Same goes for twitter. None of this reflects my opinions, this is just a basic observation that really shouldn't warrant any pushback. You have had to have recognized this by now.

There is
Its a tyranical totalitarian dictatorship where you can be killed for saying the wrong thing or trying to leave
Im not sure why people bother to defend that place
I’m not the biggest NK fan but I tend to lean more on the side of a lot of leftists in defending aspects of the country because it is honestly true that certain critiques of the country are derivative solely of a western understanding of freedom/liberty. Many poor countries don’t value “critiquing the government without punishment” as much as they do “not being homeless and having access to food”.
It’s obviously not one or the other intrinsically by any means, but on the balance of things “personal freedoms” tend to be emphasized by western countries as an excuse to ignore the need to satisfy material necessities.
I would probably guarantee if you interviewed someone in a severely underdeveloped country if they would rather be able to A) protest the government or B) have guaranteed access to stable housing, water, and food they’d probably pick B.

There's ground to criticize every country but people need to realize when theyre singling out one country over the other when they have similar if not the same problems and a lot of these problems would be alleviated without the western boot on their necks
the privilege and also the ignorance of living in the imperial core

Yeah I agree of course. I think it’s hard for a lot of people particularly influenced by or living in the west to imagine political paradigms that aren’t based innately around liberal ideas of personal freedom. That doesn’t mean personal freedom is actually bad or anything either, but that the level to which western societies over-emphasize it is a distraction from other material means

tbf I've watched some of the content they've created and am not impressed at the level of historical accuracy. if you enjoy it or find it entertaining that's cool but I find the format tedious.
