But it is totally possible, is it not? Who’s to say Kendrick wasn’t already actively doing it? It’s also very well known that he’s a silent donor much like Kyrie

What type of activism could he be doing without people finding out? It'd just be donating money pretty much

But who’s to say he wasn’t already out there protesting before being noticed once he was next to Westbrook and DeRozan?

Who's to say he was? We can only go off what's made public. And he didn't make that known when she tweeted or when he subbed her on Mirror

The point is that he was silent. The guy who made songs like Hiiipower, Good Kid, Alright, The Blacker The Berry. Again, she can't force them to speak on it if they don't want to. But there was nothing wrong with what she said and I don't fw the way either of them responded to her

Yeah it's just cope for a guy who lost his ideals as he got older bc it started going against his material interests and is desperately trying to morally reconcile that with who he thought he was

    dog what
all this cause he didnt make a post about george floyd when he was acc in the streets protesting.

you fans and your unbelievable scrutiny of artists not allowing them to be human is ridiculous

the album was about him and his growth into accepting his flaws and leading a more peaceful free life
an artist does not necessarily have an obligation to speak out in exactly the way you would like them to. Especially when they have already dedicated their entire career to create art reflecting on those themes

kendrick is not a traditional conscious rapper, most of his music is how he reflects on the world through his own experiences pain and trauma. Good kid maad city had multiple messages, but he was talking about his life.

Him not being performative enough for you or not specifically aligning with your ideology sounds like a you problem. He hasnt been inconsistent, hes grown as a human and has his own complex worldview.

going after kendrick of all people and writing all these paragraphs with the time u get not having to work a job, when there are a million people out there who havent done a fraction of what hes done, who have never spoken on anything, or who speak on s*** like this yet fund literal slavery in dubai and exploit people whenever they can.

But nah, a different view on how to change things and now we need to paint him a certain way. F*** out of here.
The idea an album as personal as this about growing as a person charting into NEVER explored territory in mainstream rap, leads to countless thinkpieces trying to s*** on him a year+ later is so lame.

instead of just doing what she can, we have a whole lot of attention turned to s***ting on other black figures because they aren't being performative enough.
See how she made an issue about herself and putting down other black people instead of actually doing something productive? This had so many eyes on it, SHE benefitted from it greatly actually.

It's not like they even needed to say anything this was a huge worldwide thing it would change literally 0, nothing.

"Poor black folks all over the country are putting their bodies on the line in protest for our collective safety and y’all favorite top selling rappers not even willing to put a tweet up," Noname tweeted. "niggas whole discographies be about black plight and they no where to be found."

As far as I know, J Cole and Kendrick were the only rappers who felt some type of way about this and responded. Ask yourself why. Then you'll see why someone would expect them to say something at a time like that

this implies a tweet is more valuable than being on the ground
and we found out a lot

because everyone assumed it was them since they are the only big conscious artists?? THERES NO OTHER TOP SELLING ARTISTS THAT TALK ABOUT THAT S***. Also someone expecting something doesnt mean they wrong for not doing it.
this implies a tweet is more valuable than being on the ground too, noname looked like a clown when it turned out they been on the streets they just didnt want to post themselves marching. Again a tweet would've done nothing, meanwhile look at who was involved in that organization and how they ran off with all that money. They were sending out plenty little "Tweets".

She actually says the opposite, "not EVEN willing to put a tweet up". So a tweet is less than protesting

I don't think people like Noname would be wrong for expecting them to say something A big reason they have that platform and their success is because they talk about that s***. It's weird to see someone say "Fuck the government, they don't care about us", "Fuck the police they killing us" but then they're just AWOL when s*** actually goes down

You guys have no proof that they were actually marching before the tweet. Noname tweeted 29 May. They just happened to get pictures of J Cole at a protest a few days later and Kendrick early in June

they werent gone when s*** went down dawg TPAB released in the middle of a big ass moment the black lives matter s*** was at its peak in 2015. and before that, when it was way less popular. Good job missing the point dawg I pray u recover from whatever brain injury lead to your critical thinking skills. She had no knowledge of wtf they be doing, she was talking about what they do in the public eye.

It’s a dirt take to say that the biggest artists in the world don’t have a responsibility to speak out on issues that disproportionately affect their community
Y’all shouldn’t even go back and forth with these clowns itt man
J Cole did a whole tour in a prison jumpsuit, please don’t ask me how he uses oppression as an aesthetic
Kendrick makes amazing music about the cost of material consumerism but stayed quiet presumably because deals were on the line

Kendrick and Cole are some of our most positive rappers ever and the former has even been acknowledged for his work in the community but nah we’re gonna believe No name.

I always felt like she kinda had a point Kendrick explicitly been mentioning figures like Huey Newton, Malcolm X, MLK, 2Pac throughout his career. J Cole came out for Mike Brown, dropped Be Free and did it on Letterman. Made a song about meeting Obama and trying to get him to change s***. Both of them did things that resulted in them being viewed as these "socially conscious" rappers and they benefitted from it in some ways

The fact that people knew who she was referring to and they both felt the need to respond says a lot. She said no names but Big Sean, ASAP Rocky and Drake didn't feel the need to respond. If the shoe fits, hit dogs holler and all that. She can't force them to speak on issues, but I don't think she was wrong for pointing out that they were silent even though racism and social injustice are big parts of their content and image

since when was kendrick's music about material consumerism he mightve mentioned it but thats far from what his music about and since when was it cause of deals?
Yall now calling any use of strong imagery for commentary as using revolution for an aesthetic? When has cole ever talked about revolution except for that one line on high for hours?

  • Dec 28, 2023

saying "kendrick's music is about material consumerism" sounds like some s*** someone who never listened to anything outside TPAB would say. Yes one of many themes in TPAB is the idea of trading morals for material wealth due to the deal with lucy, but to imply his entire career is about it doesnt compute

If these artists undeniably stood on these issues, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. And if you’re a celebrity with a potentially multi-billion person audience, making $ off the aesthetics of oppression while making millions, you should be undeniably speaking up on the realities of it. It’s that simple

She was loud and wrong. They didn’t make some special post bringing attention to it themselves because that’s not what true activism is about. Her doing that and the black squares at the time is perfect example of what “activism” has devolved into. Social media optics that are just another form of you posting yourself wearing the Astro boy boots or whatever trendy thing it is that month

People are f***ing stupid now and it’s all inverted lol

And she still would have been wrong if they didn’t go out to protest because f*** does she know about what they’re doing? If they donated to Floyd’s family how would she know? a social media post or public display of stance isn’t a requirement for a black entertainer and she was on some bullshit for using that moment to try and appear holier than thou when we all was looking for answers and what the next move was. Dumb s***
