Cinema and novels themselves aren’t chapters or individualized selections. They’re complete works. Musicians especially rappers with superficial content that carries the burden of trying to be more poetic than it really is tries to sell audiences undue worth by telling them that they’re engaged in some deeper subversive project.

Thats why people won’t accept Drake albums have ā€œthemesā€ but Kendricks are just these unassailable complete masterpieces of storytelling.

    Which is it?

Musicians especially rappers with superficial content that carries the burden of trying to be more poetic than it really is tries to sell audiences undue worth by telling them that they’re engaged in some deeper subversive project.

This just an opinion, and an argument in bad faith. Some people really just wanna say something, ain't no big deal. Not everyone likes it, but that's okay

Why are you trying to speak for all of us and what we liked or enjoyed about the album?

YOU, subjectively didn’t like it. That’s fine. You aren’t wrong for it not resonating with you, but Stop trying to put words in our mouth or act like it isnt good because the content and themes are discussed more then your average collection of songs put together as an album.

a tightly unified album is different from a ā€œthemedā€ album.

Yall just using that excuse when you can’t defend the music.

Thats where all this ā€œbodies of workā€ cope BS keeps lingering around.

Sgt Peppers is widely dubbed as
the first concept album. It's literally working as a blueprint for what's to come aka more elaborate concept albums.

He believes the idea of art having themes and ideas and a consistent messaging is a new gimmick unique to the 2010s there’s no point responding lol

    mr get dough

Bro really top 1 to me, him and pac is battling for me i think

There’s definitely an argument to be made that he is the Goat even before this battle

When you compare careers of the top MCs, Kendrick is the only one whose never really had a steep drop off in terms of lyrical ability/quality, beat riding, breathe control etc. in fact he’s the only one whose skill trajectory has only increased since the start.

Nas, Em, Lupe etc have all had luls somewhere in their careers where they dropped consecutive duds. Kendrick has not

    That leaves Jay and Kendrick

Ima let time decide that one but i think it’s pretty clear that Kendrick is still getting better and improving which is borderline unheard of for someone this deep on their rap career
