what are you even arguing 💀💀

Only US streams count on bilboard 200 anyway

I'm talking about using raw spotify stream numbers to argue who the biggest artists are lol since a lot of people are doing it in here.

Wtf? A stream is a stream bro. You rly think it's ok for artists to chart more based on how rich their fanbase is rather than how many people are actually listening?

    Horrible take

that's how Billboard/RIAA work yeah, they don't count every stream the same. Only AM/Spotify do that

so you think Billboard/RIAA should revert it and have 1 free stream count the same as 1 premium stream?

charts probably be completely different, it'd be pretty bad for artists

"On @thegreatdivine 's point about countries not counting the same, I do think it's stupid how 1 ad stream = 1 premium stream. Same with the price differences. Why should some guy in a poor country of the world paying $3 listening to a Drake song count the same as some dude paying $12? or even worse a person listening on Spotify for free with ads counting the same as 1 paying customer stream."

    Is it really that deep

    Y'all are so weird

Why you care. Charts are supposed to be a measure of what's popular and what people are listening to. People in poor countries have so much less disposable income to spend on music. It doesn't mean they shouldn't count or be counted for less?? A $3 in Colombia is way more of the average person's wage there than $12 in US.

It is that deep though, because there's already a huge income disparity in the US yet if you're american and listen to Spotify without paying you'll get ads whilst your streams will count for 1/3rd of a person paying $10+ a month.

What do you mean why do I care lmao, everyone should care. This is a super important thing because if RIAA/Billboard reverted that rule and let 1 ad stream count the same as 1 premium stream it would result in every artist being forced to dominate YouTube in order to sell & do well on charts.... but that would result in them making much less money since it pays far less than Spotify/AM. It would be catastrophic for the industry.

But they don't have that rule

So why do you or anyone care about the global stats? Other than because you want Drake to be #1 💀 that's what I'm getting

A global streaming chart that reflect the most streamed artists. You wanting the US streams to count more than poorer countries is crazy. And just seems like a way of trying to diminish Bad Bunny being as popular as he is outside of the US.

If you think billboard and US streams the only thing that matters then just stick to billboard. The rest of us would want to know in a streaming chart what songs are getting streamed the most, what songs are the most popular. That's the point. Not some mathematical formula.

I think billboard methods are BS fwiw as maybe you can tell from that last sentence but that's not even the argument here. You the one talking about "why should a poor ass Latin Spotify subscriber stream count as much as a US Spotify subscriber".

Im gonna chill tho prob won't reply to u if u reply again I've said my piece

  • May 9, 2022

I just feel Anyone from Latin America or other less developed countries who still subscribe to Spotify despite it actually costing much more relatively (even with reduced price in US$) streams should count for more if anything.

Obviously not everyone is struggling there but a lot of people are. I just imagine there's some people who are struggling and yet still pay that subscription so they can hear Bad Bunny and their other faves ad free
