Obviously the best latin artist by far. There's a reason why he's so big outside of latin countries
His music sounds very similar to modern hip hop were accustomed to probably helps a lot with his popularity it's a sound were already accustomed to he's just putting his own spin on it. And all the Spanish elements just add to the uniqueness of his music.
Ok we'll agree to that, just that everywhere else; Bunny is top 3 minimum and #1 in almost all Spanish speaking countries. Wasn't he #1 Spotify for like 3 years in a row now? lol You can argue Drake, maybe Weeknd.
But don't give me Ed Sheeran is bigger than Bad Bunny in 2022 because the hotel lobby keeps playing Shape Of You on their playlist lol It's a combination of streams/sales, tours, Merck and just overall buzz. I'd argue Kanye is more popular than most people on that list, even if its for bad reasons lol Streaming only tells one side of "popularity". Pound for pound I'd go BTS, BB, Drake in that order due to the difficulty of doing it in a different language.
Why is it surprising that a Latin artist is bigger than most US acts in Latin countries? Of course he is lol.
Him being massive on Spotify is a big deal but it's not the be-all end-all, that's what I'm saying. Most of his Spotify streams are from Latin countries so they weigh a lot less than streams from an artist like Drake who has like 85% of his streams from the US. Fans in Latin countries hardly buy music and they don't stream music on premium subscriptions and free streams count a lot less than paid streams. Meanwhile, someone like Drake is by far the biggest artist on Apple Music, which is entirely US-based and doesn't have a free-tier. Can Bad Bunny sell out arenas globally and is that a huge deal? F*** yes. But music consumption in the US is a different ball game.
Don't talk down on Ed Sheeran. He has the biggest tour of ALL TIME. He sells out stadiums every f***ing where. You might not like his music, but you can't dispute how f***ing huge that guy is.
It's super weird to me that Bad Bunny doesn't get a single mention from the IFPI report. I mean how tf is Olivia Rodrigo bigger than him worldwide? Doesn't make any sense to me but it is what it is
I've explained why in several posts in this thread. Check for them.

So basically other artists are bigger because their fans have the money to make the streams more worth it? So the IFPI data you're giving isn't as relevant in this convo of popularity since it depends on the "value" of each stream?
This is why the Spotify data is the most relevant because it shows how much people interact with the music, not how much money they generate for it.
Bad Bunny gonna wipe the floor with Jake Harley
That's really not in question lol. His last 2 albums debuted/outsold's Jack's last album.

Also his personality is very cool, people f*** with him and his vibes
He got way bigger since YHLQMDLG and El Último Tour Del Mundo and thats why he's also running AM rn. That wasn't the case 2 years ago

Not just that. I posted the certification levels of various countries to offer more context. A song going gold/platinum in the US is much marder than anywhere else. You have to move 1M units to go Platinum in the US. In Latin America, 60,000 units gets you a Platinum certification so how can streams/sales from both regions be weighed the same way? Does that seem fair?

Ofc he's swaggy af the boy is dripping with sauce his own sauce
I know Spanish and I can assure you that he is the s***.
Does he make reggaeton, I haven't heard songs by him and am curious

I mean I guess some people would consider his music reggaeton but i definitely wouldn't. It might be an evolution of it. He definitely uses reggaeton elements in his music that's for sure.

Nobody cares about certifications. We're talking about popularity. If a list is ranking artists throughout the year, but their rank depends on the value of each stream, then that is not a true indicator of popularity, and moreso an indicator of money generated for each artist.
A list that ranks artist purely based of number of streams (like the Spotify data) is the most relevant for showing popularity. Just because 1 million BTS stans buy 6 albums each and loop the album 24/7, it doesn't mean they are more popular than bad Bunny getting streamed by 5 million free Spotify users. (Ik BTS is one of the biggest artists in the world, I'm just giving numbers to show my point)

Why is it surprising an English speaking artist is big in USA?
lol BTS is bigger than both anyway. But BB is bigger in the USA than Drake is in Latin America/bunny territory. By your criteria no non English speaking act will ever be the top artist in the world lol lets just agree to disagree cause I know you got charts for days

And even going off that, Bad Bunny isn't the biggest lol. He's big on Spotify/YouTube, that's it. Someone like Drake is big on Spotify/Apple Music/Pandora/etc so either way you look at it, it's the same thing.

dude has a trap album, a reggaeton album, an album with a lot of rock influences. pretty diverse
latin trap and reggaeton are the core tho

How many AM streams does Drake have over Bad Bunny?
ok, harlow is doing really poorly on AM, even if you remove every future and bad bunny song he would only have 2 tracks in the top 10
You people know Spanish to know if Bad Bunny is mid? It's not something I can even state
You don't even need to know Spanish lmao.
If the music sounds good, then what's the deal?
And even going off that, Bad Bunny isn't the biggest lol. He's big on Spotify/YouTube, that's it. Someone like Drake is big on Spotify/Apple Music/Pandora/etc so either way you look at it, it's the same thing.
Obviously Drake is bigger on AM. As you said yourself, Latin audiences are less likely to stream on paid services like Apple music.
However Spotify and YouTube are way bigger platforms than apple music. Not sure why that's the decider for you.

The beginning of the end.
