Not a single artist has ever had their streams increase into Tuesday after the Super Bowl after their half time performance in the history of Spotify charts

That's left to be seen. All I can give is you is a history of how Drake's R&B songs — specifically those with PARTYNEXTDOOR, have performed and they've all performed poorly despite most of them being fan favorites.

All lofty first-week expectations should be reserved for Drake's solo album imo.

I think it will do 400k. Or in the 350-450k range. Yes, normally a collab album does worse than a solo album. But this album is in a special position. Its the first post beef Drake album. I think a lot of people will check it out, even if it is just to find some Kendrick bars or hate on it on social media.

The question is will it be able to retain listeners or lose them fast.I am confident that Drake will have at least one hit on the album which will go viral. He has an ear for these things. That’s why I am saying that at worst it will do 350k and with good wom, 450k

damn i thought NLU was going to drop after SB bump but it's continuing to rise

    https://twitter.com/KendrickChart/status/1889682570121519463

So 12 million global streams with 4 million of those being from the US.

But Mangoflu told me NLU wasn’t big outside the US

I don't doubt that he was popping in certain communities like that, but that's the whole point of Billboard, to show what's actually popping across the whole country with the majority of people. It did a garbage job of this like you said until streaming became a thing, but now it does a pretty good job.

He went from being a local artist, to having 10s of millions of white suburban girls across the country shaking their ass to him. That's what you need to be actually big, you're never gonna get that by just having the minority communities locked down

There's a reason Bad Bunny's numbers were like 5-10x higher in 2020 than 2018 for example

You have some good call outs but I want to point out that not all form of music is consumed through streaming. There is a huge aspect of social music listening, atleast in America. I know plenty of people who do not listen to music day to day but go out to listen to music at bars and clubs every weekend. That's their only form of consumption. Maybe it's hard to understand culturally but we have people going out of their way to listen to artists and go to venues who may never consume music traditionally.

And that is a good portion of the population from 18-35 here.

Has Drake confirmed that it’s a straight R&B album? Because I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some songs on there where Party does a hook with Drake just straight rapping

We don't actually know. But people assume it will be more r&b and party could even be majority of vocals.

    Luther wants the #1.

Luther can wait a bit longer for #1. It’ll have crazy longevity while NLU will probably drop faster so I hope NLU gets #1 this week.

Luther will end up being Kendrick’s most streamed song when it’s all said and done. It's been out for two months and is already at nearly 500M streams. Dope MV would take it to another level.

Kendrick really dropped his One Dance (Luther) and God’s Plan (NLU) back to back 13 years into his career.

Also All The Stars just passed 2 billion streams today. HUMBLE. is at 2.5 billion and "Money Trees will also pass 2 billion this year. Pretty impressive.

141 songs on Spotify have 2 billion streams or more

  • Feb 12, 2025

Not really, you're valuing longevity, i'm valuing peak performance

Longevity matters way more than peak performance.

Billie Jean has more streams on Spotify than Old Town Road, and it released in 1982

Songs can remain in peoples minds without them wanting to listen to it tho

WAP is an example of this, that was absolutely everywhere for a few months, arguably even the highest peak for a female rap song in the last 10 years. Arguably even a top 10 rap song peak in the last 10 years. But just 2 years later it wasnt being listened to much anymore, cause people got tired of it

then some songs (especially pop) have way lower peaks, but are around for years, because people don't really get sick of them. Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift is an example of that

WAP has 1 million streams less than Old Town Road, and the two songs released within one year of each other.

You’re arguing that Old Town Road is the biggest song of the streaming era, but that WAP became forgotten about quickly. Your own arguments aren’t even consistent in logic

people really tryna use charts are tiers

Michael Jackson's team had to hire actors to pretend to be regular people so he could walk around a mall.

Aint no one MJ tier and there won't be another person that will come close.

  • Feb 12, 2025

Billboard themselves literally recognize Blinding Lights as the song that was most successful in the history of the chart, and it didn’t have no “weeks at #1” record. It’s a meaningless metric
