Not a single rap song above or anywhere near Not Like Us in streams this year and she thought she had a point

Pop is back on top and more importantly (and noteworthy), rap is cooked. Not Like Us was a legit huge smash hit but even its momentum couldn't last long enough for it to be ranked as one of the top 10 most streamed songs on Spotify for the year. Next year will be interesting numbers-wise for rap.

Yeah pop is really back in full swing. When it comes to hip hop, it's like who among these new niggas really serious about their craft like that? There are definitely some hungry artists bubbling under but it's a whole different environment than the one Drake, Kendrick and j Cole had to build their reputations in. Most of these pandemic and post-pandemic artists really be coasting. They don't want it like that. Female rappers are doing great tho.

As for Not Like Us, and given its subject matter (folks still forget it's a diss track), I'm sure even dot himself was probably taken aback by how far it managed to reach. 2025 should be an interesting landscape for rap in general. No clue what's in store. Drake is rumored to drop that PND Collab. Idk when that's happening. But yeah, Next year should be interesting.

Die With a Smile has more streams than Not Like Us despite dropping some months after?

Yeah, things are definitely different post-pandemic music-wise but I feel like the best in anything will always find a way to rise to the top. All the legends we have from the 60s till now all had different challenges they faced with their respective eras and yet, they still managed to stand out.

Rap's first and biggest issue is a lack of new superstars. You're seeing pop and country music pump out superstars every year and rap simply isn't. Yes, the rap girlies are doing their thing but they're not scoring massive hits or dropping albums that are impactful culturally and commercially.

The fact that we still have to rely on niggas almost in their 40s to drop and put up numbers that make rap look good and hold up the genre is absolutely ridiculous. I also don't think Drake will be dropping a rap album next year so Kendrick will be the only major figure in rap that can do any damage. We'll see how the genre fares without Drake being active.

Also pretty telling for the year that I can look at that list that's made without the artists' names and only recognize 5 out of those songs. Out of those 5 I can only remember how 2 of the songs sound (BOAF is very very good)

Because those songs got some airplay on country and pop radio lmao. In reality, they didn't crossover in any real way. A Bar Song (Tipsy) and Last Night are maybe the only two legit examples of crossover smash hits we've gotten this decade.
