Can Tyler get a fourth week at number one? My Turn, CLB and Utopia are the only rap albums in the last five years to do it, so that would be crazy

Tbh, Beyonce has bigger hits this decade than Drake.

Cuff It, Break My Soul, and Texas are bigger radio jams than pretty much any Drake hit besides maybe Toosie Slide(which didn't age well).

This ain't Scorpion era Drake anymore. His 2020's hits have definitely lost some of their global/pop appeal compared to the 2010's.

No, he isn't. He still needs a couple mainstream hit records before that comparison can be made. He doesn't have any of those yet. Is he a star? Yes, absolutely. A superstar? As silly as it may seem to say, no, he isn't yet.

Yeah pop is really back in full swing. When it comes to hip hop, it's like who among these new niggas really serious about their craft like that? There are definitely some hungry artists bubbling under but it's a whole different environment than the one Drake, Kendrick and j Cole had to build their reputations in. Most of these pandemic and post-pandemic artists really be coasting. They don't want it like that. Female rappers are doing great tho.

As for Not Like Us, and given its subject matter (folks still forget it's a diss track), I'm sure even dot himself was probably taken aback by how far it managed to reach. 2025 should be an interesting landscape for rap in general. No clue what's in store. Drake is rumored to drop that PND Collab. Idk when that's happening. But yeah, Next year should be interesting.

Nigga, mainstream rap has been on life support for the past 4-5 years and that’s WHILE Drake was on top dominating s***.

Him being accepted or s*** on by the genre has no bearing on how mainstream rap is doing anymore, it’s been struggling even with him at the top

Couldn't you argue that hits are less important than ever now though? Almost to the point they're not even really.. required?

Morgan Wallen was selling out stadiums before he ever even had a #1 hit whilst selling like 3.2m+ album units in a year (2022). In fact his highest Hot 100 entry until 2023 was #5. Yet dude went on a stadium tour the same size as The Weeknd's with that.

i think like you said a few posts above, things have changed a lot in recent years.

Hits aren't everything but they'll always matter. Hits give you exposure to an audience that may not necessarily be aware of the rest of your catalog. They also serve as great promo for albums.

With that being said, you can definitely have a long and successful career without hits as well but you don't reach superstar status without them. You don't become a household name without them.

that's fair but Morgan doing stadiums before having a smash hit just shows how much s*** has changed I think, I don't think that would have ever happened before covid

artists are blowing up to superstar/that level below incredibly fast with barely any hits now, Chappell being another, this type of s*** just didn't really happen before

Rap isn't on life support at all, My Turn is the #3 highest selling album out of ALL genres this decade, behind only Taylor and Morgan

rap's problem is literally no one dropped this year, they'll all drop next year and then you'll see it everywhere again. Meanwhile almost no popstars will drop, because they all dropped this year, then you'll get shortsighted mfs like you talking about how pop is dead again lol. Tyler has completely proven there's still mass appetite for rap.

If the genre is still reliant on Kendrick, Drake, and J. Cole to drop albums to prove it’s not a down year in big 2025, then the genre is probably in a bad spot at the top

but it's really silly to talk about pop being huge, whilst s***ting on rap. Just last year everyone was talking about how dead pop was lol, now look, but as I said this is a complete fluke year for pop, all the stars dropping in the same year is extremely rare, wont happen again for a long time

Rap still has a lot more artists that can go plat w/ their next album than pop has, so I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as you think

and yeah, Chromakopia has had one of the biggest streaming months ever, so it has definitely proven that people still want to hear rap imo
