Streaming has rotted people’s brains so much that some of y’all really believe physical media is nothing more than a gimmick
That’s a shame man
I'd say physicals hold more value now

This is a straw man argument
How would that be interesting? Maybe if they both purely just dropped albums. But Taylor would just sell 20 digital remixes and 15 alternate physicals like she always does.
Ur overcomplicating it
Taylor vs Drake
That's pretty much it lol
If more people are getting into vinyl, vinyl players would be flying off the shelves like the vinyls
But it's stans collecting merch for wall art
god you stans just f***ing hate art itself
so pathetic
Streaming is also rapidly destroying the art of an album cover. Spotify with their little videos and Apple Music with their animated gifs. But with physical it’s always there to look at
This is a straw man argument
It’s not at all, someone ITT earlier quite literally called physical media a gimmick
Selling cds + vinyls = people buying music
Selling 20 different versions of cds + vinyls = people buying merch
Like what’s so hard to get about that.
I'd say physicals hold more value now
Look who in here
Selling cds + vinyls = people buying music
Selling 20 different versions of cds + vinyls = people buying merch
Like what’s so hard to get about that.
You too
@shaleirose not sure anymore who said it itt but people said in here that Drake is bigger globally but looking at the streaming numbers, Utopia was more streamed outside of the US
Whats your opinion on that?
It’s not at all, someone ITT earlier quite literally called physical media a gimmick
You said “y’all” , i just wasn’t sure if everyone arguing that Taylor was being gimmicky was apart of that
What we arguing over noe
Selling cds + vinyls = people buying music

CDs and vinyl are not merch in any circumstance
The reason why someone buys something is completely irrelevant. A sale is a sale is a sale.
Hey, it's impressive that someone's fans are dedicated enough to buy a bunch of vinyl cover variations but it doesn't change the fact that it's not being played by the majority of people. If it wasn't a gimmick, these artists wouldn't try so hard to get them shipped out to abide by Billboard's rules. They want it to inflate their numbers
CDs and vinyl are not merch in any circumstance
If people are buying it not for the music, it’s merch.
Look who in here
U copping a Drake vinyl?
If people are buying it not for the music, it’s merch.
How would u Kno tht tho
U copping a Drake vinyl?
Lol for what. Apple one is $20

After seeing his performance in Rome, it made me realize that Travis might be a lot bigger overseas than any of us really fathom. Drake seems to be a lot more centralized to North America, for whatever reason
No, simply releasing physical versions of an album isn't a gimmick and is a common industry practice. However, releasing multiple ''variants'' of essentially the exact same album and marketing it to fans as something they need to grab all separate versions of (a tactic Taylor Swift frequently employs) IS a gimmick. Same way releasing 20 different remixes/versions of a song like Lil Nas X, BTS and Taylor Swift have each done (a blatant attempt to boost/fortify the chart position of a song) is also a gimmick. It's really not that hard to understand.
Travis Scott's album was moving on fake popularity for almost 6 weeks due to the $5 vinyls he was selling to fans (many of which still haven't been delivered to said fans, if social media reports are anything to go by). As soon as he ran out of vinyls, his numbers dropped drastically, revealing the actual, organic representation of how much his album is being consumed.
In the current music climate, streaming is seen as the most organic form of music consumption because of the effort it requires. It has already been revelaed that 50% of the people who purchase vinyls don't have vinyl players to actually listen to the music they purchased and is more a reflection of fan support than music consumption. Nothing illegal about that but that's why that's why it's harder to sustain that kind of support over time.
How would u Kno tht tho
Na people def buy vinyl to hoard or collect
How would u Kno tht tho
Because a single person buying 12 copies of the same exact album with different covers would not buy 12 copies of the album if it only had one cover.
Also we have to stop with the exaggerations. It’s not 15 variants, it’s a third of that at most… and acting like her entire fanbase bought all four Midnights covers is very silly!
Remember when Drake and j Cole went to best buy and bought 1k copies of villuminati
Sht would look weird in today's age
