No, simply releasing physical versions of an album isn't a gimmick and is a common industry practice. However, releasing multiple ''variants'' of essentially the exact same album and marketing it to fans as something they need to grab all separate versions of (a tactic Taylor Swift frequently employs) IS a gimmick. Same way releasing 20 different remixes/versions of a song like Lil Nas X, BTS and Taylor Swift have each done (a blatant attempt to boost/fortify the chart position of a song) is also a gimmick. It's really not that hard to understand.
Travis Scott's album was moving on fake popularity for almost 6 weeks due to the $5 vinyls he was selling to fans (many of which still haven't been delivered to said fans, if social media reports are anything to go by). As soon as he ran out of vinyls, his numbers dropped drastically, revealing the actual, organic representation of how much his album is being consumed.
In the current music climate, streaming is seen as the most organic form of music consumption because of the effort it requires. It has already been revelaed that 50% of the people who purchase vinyls don't have vinyl players to actually listen to the music they purchased and is more a reflection of fan support than music consumption. Nothing illegal about that but that's why that's why it's harder to sustain that kind of support over time.
You said all of this but no one has refuted this point
I’ve been saying for pages now that they are two different metrics that measure two different things and neither one is more important than the other
I'd say physicals hold more value now
Honestly, i think charts should evolve with time and right now the majorty of the poblation is listening through streaming and i think that should reflected. Like the charts are for showing what people are listening and i think streaming is the best way to show it
Drake can't* do physical sales
Sold 800k physical for views

Na people def buy vinyl to hoard or collect
Yea but how would u Kno that one person is buying multiple
Why can't it just be 12 ppl buying 1 vinyl
R stores giving out these stats or something

No offense but ur a mod
So u gotta be on this sht moderating
So..
And u been living in tht one Drake thread for weeks
At this point, I think the “Drake doesn’t do physicals” thing is more of a knock on him rather than a “look how good his sales still are”. The industry has changed nowadays, pure sales are back on the rise, it is 100% Drake’s fault if his sales are lower because he feels like he’s too good to drop physicals anymore.
And also, even if he did for this album, the total first week number would’ve been nowhere near 1.57 million. Him and Taylor have two totally different fanbases right now.
Couple artists selling bundles don't mean physicals are on the rise. Streaming is still the primary form of consumption
What bout streaming farms
Obviously labels and artist will try to fake numbers always. But that should be on billboard and streaming services to recognize those numbers and try to make it the more legitimate
At the end of the day tho, streaming farms is the same as a label buying copies of their album to boost the sales
When's the last time you've seen someone use a CD player or a Vinyl player
Over a decade fr
I still burn CD's sometimes tho
Drake gonna have a good week and then Bad Bunny might wipe him out
Lol bad bunny ain't topping 250k
Not sure what y'all talking bout but on digital stores I'm sure they can tell when one account are buying multiple
Hmm
When's the last time you've seen someone use a CD player or a Vinyl player
A lot of people are using vinyl players nowadays… whats your point?
Genuinely not bad for a 40 year old 15 years in the game
Bundles are probably coming next time
Lol bad bunny ain't topping 250k
Did 280k with his last album, now is way more popular, he is doing that easily
And wait till the feats are reveladed. There are rumors of him having Taylor Swift, Drake and Peso Pluma there

Exactly
So regardless the numbers will always be inflated
You'll never be able to truly tell anymore
Numbers mean nothing in the grand scheme of things if the music doesn't age well!!
Lol bad bunny ain't topping 250k
Bad Bunny selling over 250k
What bout streaming farms
Streaming farms, playlist manipulation… shady stuff! You don’t get any of that with physicals!

Glad you back in school. Your English is amazing here

All I've been saying is streaming is now indicative of the popularity of an album while physical sales are indicative of how well an artist can market merchandise

Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny
that's like throwing oatmilk into a margarita
