Nobody saying Drake doesn't have stans Just that they're a lower % of the total number of people listening to his music compared to artists like Trav, Taylor, Nicki etc

That's why I brought up the CLB cover memes and how every Drake release is a moment. Not a lot of those people would consider themselves a part of Drake's fanbase, but they'll make posts and s*** about it because that's what's dominating the conversation at that point in time. Those people are not dropping money on Drake merch just because it's Drake

You realize that even with a lower % he could easily have more stans that would buy s*** than Travis and Nicki

You just brought up two different groups of people lmao

People who go with the moment
    And
    People who buy merch

You said people who go with the moment aren't buying Merch
    Yeah, we know that lol

    Fans/stans buy Merch

Pop doesn’t really do insane numbers on streaming first week, and also Abel is an artist who does rely on pure sales a ton because he also has a very dedicated, rabid fanbase.

Dawn’s first week numbers were so low because he didn’t have the benefit of physicals like he did with After Hours, which almost cleared 500K.

Yeah AH was one of the last albums to have the bad bundles before the rules changed I think.

When Dawn FM cds came out 3 weeks after release he only sold 37k. So yeah he isn't selling much without bundles.

3x difference in streams is absolutely insane and shows the vast difference in how Drake's fanbase is more hardcore, yet The Weeknd had no issues selling bundles or doing stadiums, so yeah I can't see Drake struggling.

I bet if we made a thread in Music section, asking people two questions:

    1. Do you listen to Drake?

    2. Do you consider yourself a Drake stan?

The majority of answers would be “Yes. No.”

A stan/hardcore fan is anyone who has a deep, sustained interest in something or someone. It doesn't mean they have to act like brainless zombies wherever that person or thing is concerned, it just means they care enough to always show support for that person/thing.

If you've listened to Drake's music for 15+ years consistently, you're a stan, especially if you also consistently discuss things that concern him online and in your real life.

Y'all are admitting to listening to this man's music for over a decade and are in his forum talking about him all day and are still saying ''oh, but I don't consider myself a stan.'' Yeah, right

Y'all are like all the ''Drake haters'' online who use their fake hate tweets as a way to keep talking about him and then act surprised when he's the artist they spent the entire year listening to the most on their Apple Music/Spotify Wrapped

If yall really know that, then posts wouldn't be getting misconstrued to "Drake doesn't have any stans"

That is not at all what Stan means both in the context of music fandom and in the context of this conversation and you know that

    I don't disagree

But it doesn't take a stan to buy Merch, yes?

That's because being a Drake stan is lame tho to be fair, it's like all those people on here/twitter that complain that Spotify wrapped is broken when Drake's their most listened to artist for the year They don't wanna face the reality lol

Drake is the most popular artist in the game. We’re going to discuss him as fans of the genre of rap/fans of Drake. I don’t understand how you can’t wrap your head around that. We did this with 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, Eminem, etc. I really don’t understand how you can’t see that it’s all just discourse and we can be fans and not stans.

Listening to someone a lot doesn’t solely make you a stan of that artist though.

There’s way more s*** that comes with being a STAN.

    That’s what we’re saying

That's all it is. People who claim to hate Drake spend more time talking about him/listening to his music than the people they claim to actually stan. Make it make sense lmao.

That's gonna be the response for a lot of artists Lmfao

What you trying to figure out is what percentage of Drake's fans would classify themselves as stans

And it could be a lower percent than another artist but he has a greater total so it balances

Because there’s way more that comes with being a stan than just playing the artist’s music.

A stan is what you are with Drake.

An underrated aspect is that the actions of the fanbase come at the direction of the artist themselves. It's no surprise that the artists that keep being mentioned (Travis, Taylor, Nicki) clearly care a lot about numbers and encourage their fans to buy their s*** to run up the numbers.

Drake on the other hand also clearly cares but constantly talks about doing numbers without all the funny s***. He doesn't direct his fans to buy his album for $5 on iTunes. He doesn't advertise merch and physical purchases as a way to support him or his album. So his fanbase naturally doesn't act like the fanbases of artists that do.

I don't think that means his fanbase wouldn't start buying s*** if he suddenly changed course and started encouraging it though.

Drake didn’t cultivate the type of fanbase to do all that extra s*** with bundles and numbers, so he wouldn’t benefit in some massive way with them.

  • Also I’ve said on this site multiple times that I love Drake’s music. I just dislike his work after More Life aside from HNVM and Her Loss. He be doing corny s*** that I comment on but I like his music at the end of the day. I just feel like everytime I share an opinion the stans dislike, it’s an issue. I’ve been a fan of son since Degrassi like gtfo here

All you're doing is using Drake's popularity to discredit how much of the people who support him are actually stans and you're only doing that because you have a narrow-minded idea of what being a stan constitutes.

I have a really hard time believing that Travis sold 250k bundles because his fans wanted him to sell as much as possible tho

I think the vast majority of the bundle sales were people that literally just thought the merch was cool, nothing else

Well in this scenario I'm assuming that he's doing bundles and actively promoting them. Now if he just puts that s*** up on DrakeRelated without even so much as an instagram post like he does with everything else...then yeah. But I believe that if he really put in some effort into it that his fanbase would mobilize
