Beyonce doesn’t have a fanbase that was curated by streaming, plus her audience skews on the older side. Streaming services are dominated by younger consumers, it’s not hard to grasp that. Almost 60% of Spotify users are under 34 years of age.

Also, the type of music she makes generally doesn’t dominate streaming

Oh so you're proving my point that streaming isnt passive then... it's a whole ass audience you have to captivate & then work to keep

meanwhile Beyonce can just sit on her ass doing nothing for the next 10 years & still sell out a huge ass tour

Compared to that buying tour tickets/buying the music irl sure but it still isn't really a passive thing, hence why so many huge artists like Beyonce and Nicki struggle with streaming

Beyonce's first album in 5 years only did 138k streaming, meanwhile Travis is doing 245k-275k. If it's so passive why is someone as big as Beyonce stuggling so hard when it's apparently so easy to game?

Idk about it being easier to game I’m not talking about that but “if it’s so passive why is someone as big as Beyoncé struggling so hard” is a question for artists making accessible and current taste-relevant music rather than a question of what the most passive form of consumption for listeners is

It’s literally like asking what’s the most passive out of walking/jogging/sprinting. Streaming is walking here lol

I don’t see how it’s crazy to say streaming music is a more passive form of consumption than buying music or going to a concert

It isnt and im not saying streaming isn't more passive lol, im just saying streaming isn't passive in itself, especially on the artists side

It is quite literally the most passive form of music consumption. Beyonce doesn’t have a large streaming audience because her audience and her catalog predates streaming, and she doesn’t even make the type of music that is dominant on streaming services.

If you notice, most all of the largest streaming artists are artists who had their commercial peaks in the streaming era. Eminem is one of the very few outliers, but that one explains itself.

work to keep for all those streaming numbers and still have to cancel shows, sounds like it's pretty passive to me dawg

Also "beyonce can just sit on her ass doing nothing" uhhhhh, have you seen the shows she puts on?

Beyonce's recent album was generic run of the mill dance music though. For an artist as big as her she should have definitely done a lot better but she's failed at getting the younger (25 and under) generation interested in her music. Whilst Taylor Swift has done an extremely good job at recapturing that audience and it's why she's now arguably at the peak of her whole ass career

My Turn is literally generic run of the mill late 2010s trap music. It doesn’t get more accessible than that.

You’re gonna sit here and act like trap music hasn’t been extremely mainstream since 2015/2016? It’s the main reason why rap music dominated the cultural zeitgeist from the mid-to-late 2010s

my conclusions come from Beyonce's first album in 5 years being outsold by Lil Baby's recent album meanwhile people on here are downtalking artists like Lil Baby's achievements because apparently it means nothing because its "passive"

    Beyonce is accessible.

The type of music Lil Baby makes dominates streaming (ESPECIALLY Apple Music), plus the majority of Beyonce’s audience is not consuming her music via streaming services

It has, but what makes that interesting is it was never meant to be lol. Music like Beyonce was what was always meant to be mainstream & everywhere. Everyone is always shocked when they find out My Turn outsold After Hours by a lot and that's because people aren't used to rappers actually being mainstream
