Hate to say this but we had the same show in Slovenia. It's my opinion that while this s*** is out of pocket, its presented with no malice and is just plain ignorant.

Or rather, since until recently, the black population here was always pretty much zero, there is no social context for this to be considered racist by most. Black people were never a part of life here.

Take Sinatra or Beyonce, to most people here, there is no real difference, both are just imported monolithic american stars from hollywood land. They both dont even seem real. So thats how the producers of the show see it probably.

The internet exists, but most people here dont even come in contact with african culture on the internet, so that means they are never gonna educate themself on blackface or anything like that.

That said, you could label a lot of very different countries as eastern european, but they are not all alike.

"Take Sinatra or Beyonce, to most people here, there is no real difference, both are just imported monolithic american stars from hollywood land" - this is pure gold

when I was 6 years old listening to 50 Cent and Eminem, I didn't see them as black and white
I saw them as Americans who speaks language that I don't understand
they both were equally aliens to me

bro, putin is nazi and fascist but not necessarily racist
just look up the list of russia supporting counties, most of them aren’t white
plus that narrative that he backs up Trump is a joke

He's probably racist but he's just cut off from the west so he's gotta make do with what he can. There was a video last year of a Russian PMC burning down peoples homes in Guatemala to get access to a nickel mine

    He's a dictator,nazi and fascist,but he cant be a white supremacist,thats outta line!

    He's actually not a dictator

Putin keeps getting reelected because the left-wing in the country is suppressed beyond all measure and the alternatives to Putin that have a chance at winning elections are just full-blown neoliberal stooges willing to sell Russia out to western capital. Putin keeps winning because he at least protects Russia's national interest and didn't let the country fall into complete disrepair after capitalism was restored in the country. He's a terrible person and 100% a fascist but he genuinely has popular support from a terrified and jaded Russian voting population

The US has actually done a great job at modernizing racism well before Trump tbh. US foreign policy of "spreading democracy" and providing "aid" for the "third world" is just a modernized version of classic European colonialism. Europe did a better job at modernizing racism domestically but ever since Jimmy Carter the US has been perfecting racism at the imperial level

Main thing I look at with the US is,black people built this motherfucker in the beginning and now, were needled to keep it going. I think the governments realize that, black folks do most of the grunt work and entertaining, while also making the most money corporations. Everyone knows the deal, everyone knows white supremacy is still there and everyone knows what to fight for.

Europe on tge other hand, seems to have an undrrhanded systematic racism, that I,an American, can't fully understand unless I live there. But,you can sense thus stuff through videos like in op,they don't respect black culture and don't have to,being black is obviously being lesser there, its very obvious.

A lot of people don't realize how dire the situation is for the glaring majority of Eastern Europe in terms of either political or economic instability. The only Eastern Bloc country that wasn't completely thrown to the wolves after 1991 was Belarus and that's because they're the only former Bloc country that didn't entirely abandon socialism. It's also one of the most economically stable, peaceful, and less hostile toward racial/ethnic minority populations of any European country in general

There's also just been a stronger civil rights movement in the US than in most of Europe for black people and non-white folks in general. Europe is so ridiculously white and homogeneous it's insane

Well like I said, he's a fascist. He does all his bidding for the Russian oligarchy (to be clear, every developed capitalist nation has an economic oligarchy. Not remotely unique to Russia).

But Yeltsin was straight up gouging the country of its wealth until Putin got into power. The death rate in Russia was the highest of anywhere in the world at one point in the 1990s under Yeltsin. Putin brought stability by building back a stronger, but fascistic, central government and protecting Russian economic and national interests, while Yeltsin was fully okay with turning Russia into a resource colony for the west. It was a straight up nightmare for Russia in the 90s

    I mean, he does

Y'all don't realize people vote out of fear. I never said the elections were fair, but considering he hasn't abolished elections, he's not exactly a dictator. In our own way, the US uses terror against its population to keep them voting for one or the other party that are fundamentally in agreement on imperial and economic policy. They also block access for third parties on ballots, block registered third party voters from voting in primary elections, and rig voting districts in favor of typically the Republican party. Putin uses that logic and takes it to a more overtly extreme extent in order to consolidate uninterrupted leadership in Russia as if he were a czar, but considering Russian electoralism is so unbelievably f***ed, the people herd behind him just to avoid a worst case scenario in a new Yeltsin, who was just as socially reactionary as Putin with even worse, further right economic policymaking

  • Sep 11, 2023

I'm not even interested in defending Putin either he's no ally to anyone other than himself and rich Russians but his rule is consolidated by fear and oppression rather than the outright elimination of elections. The reason Russia hasn't pushed further right is precisely because some b******ized semblance of a liberal democracy exists at the parliamentary level in which the Communist Party still holds a sizable number of seats and consistently comes in a strong second place during elections at the national level.

It's due to how homogenous and right-wing Poland is at this point, and much of Europe. If all you're surrounded by is ignorant, chauvinistic white people, reared in an ignorant, chauvinistic white supremacist culture, that's the s*** you'll get. If the US is any more racially progressive, it is merely because there is more racial plurality amongst its citizens, the most disenfranchised amongst us fighting some of the hardest, bloodiest, most unrelenting battles for civil rights in history against a white supremacist government that is no less abusive or oppressive than those found in Europe.

    "he hasn't abolished elections"
there are literally no oppisition candidates to vote for
all of the other candidates are literally fake
the real opposition leaders always got assassinated or got in prison (most famous - Boris Nemtsov, Alexei Navalny)
that's like saying that Kim Jong Un is not a dictator because the country is called Democratic People's Republic of Korea
well, he hasn't abolished the word "democratic", so he's not exactly a dictator !
my parents lived through the 90's and they will be the first ones to tell that the 90's were much much better times

Whether Putin saved Russia economically/socially or not,his facism has definitely turned him into a dictator of some sort. When someone disagrees with Putin, and they end up dead a couple of weeks later,or your own people protest peacefully and stuff like this happens
    "
The protests have been met with widespread repression by the Russian authorities. According to OVD-Info, at least 14,906 people were detained from 24 February to 13 March. Human rights organisations and reporters have raised concerns of police brutality during arrests and OVD-Info reported several cases of protestors being tortured under detention. The government has also moved to crack down on other forms of opposition to the war, including introducing widespread censorship measures. Other individuals who signed anti-war petitions have faced reprisals. After Putin announced a partial mobilization of Russia's military reserves on 21 September, over 2,000 people were detained in mass street protests in the following days."

Most people will call Putin, simply,a dictator.
