Notes from Underground
What a waste of time
Speaking about Dostoyevsky tho... I'm really struggling to continue Karamazov 😩😩

That’s next on my list
And yeah I liked Notes from Underground. I just hate that it was partly satirical but still saw some fragments of a reflection of myself in it

It's so dense of philosophy and meaning that it becomes a heavy read. Also always got difficulty to remember russian names. Currently reading like 1-2 pages per day lol.

Reading in contemporary with this A Game Of Thrones hoping George will announce Winds release date once I'm finished.

Man I felt like this at first when I read House of the Dead but that's like one of the more passionately human books I've read
A Swim In The Pond In The Rain by George Saunders

this was an interesting and unique read. know Saunders has some fans here, but for those who don't know, he's one of the most lauded contemporary short story writers in the USA. he also teaches a class at some university about Russian writers and their short stories. this book is based off that class and includes short stories from Tolstoy, Chekov, Gogol, and Turgenev, followed by Saunders giving his thoughts on each story. it toes the line well between an instructional short story writing book and one that simply helps you appreciate and understand the style and decisions these famous writers made. some stories I found pretty bland but others I really liked and Saunders' perspectives and breakdowns were engaging and thoughtful. would recommend to anybody interested in Russian literature, creative writing, or just developing a deeper understanding of the reading process
8/10

Better than Percy Jackson?
Finished Louise Erdrich’s Love Medicine the other day, damn I love her so much! I’ve only also read Plague of Doces but both are 10/10 strongly recommended for Toni Morrison fans and those interested in Indigenous American lit. I got 5 more books from her the other day lol
