Basic mindfulness sounds like. Good s***. Don’t want to come off as new agey or anything but meditation is a pretty effective panacea for anxiety

12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson

wouldn't consider myself a Peterson fan but stumbled across this book and some of the chapters/rules seemed pretty relevant to me so I gave it a shot. there were a few chapters that really resonated and were well written but I thought a lot of it was off topic and like Peterson was trying to shoehorn his own agendas (anti communism, anti feminism, anti pc culture) into the maxims and that's the kind of Peterson material I'm not interested in at all. if you take some of that out I would've enjoyed this book more but I could how the rules/book would be helpful to others. might read the sequel as there are a few rules there that intrigue me as well.

    7/10

Honestly bro if you liked this book you should read on becoming a person by Carl Rogers. Best clinical psychology book I’ve ever read

    Finished Lolita yesterday - 3.5/5

Just as interesting and moving as it is deeply disturbing. I understand why a lot of people won’t read it but I think everyone should read it at least once. The book’s forward (written by a fictitious editor) immediately tells you you’re dealing with a p*do and that the book is basically his confession/memoir written from prison. There’s a lot of wittiness and comical puns throughout the book and truly beautiful prose. I gave it 3.5 stars because the writing got a bit too purple for my liking at times to the point where it was almost unbearable to read (like when there’s 2 long ass chapters dedicated to just describing scenery and landmarks as the main character is on a road trip all over America). But this book does take a really interesting turn from sick love story to mystery/detective story that I enjoyed a lot.

    Have u read pale fire?

not the same subject, but breath by James Nestor was similar in how it made me more self-aware about controlling my mind/body. Same kind of cultural blind spots, and the authors approach the topics in the same casual way.

Started this a couple days ago it's blowing my mind tysm

If you like the psychoanalysis angle, read The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Any good mystery recommendations of past or new? I’m really into plot twist and objectively ‘good’ endings
    Detective
    Crime
    Psychological
    Who dunnit
    Fun/comical/ serious/ noir
Sorry for the vagueness; but I’ll take a minute to checkout any recommendations y’all think are good — ultimately on the for a good ending ( I cannot stress that part enough)

Salvage The Bones by Jesmyn Ward

powerful novel about a working class family before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina. Ward's writing was the star as she struck a perfect balance in her prose between descriptive and poetic. the POV and relationships between the characters was engaging throughout the whole book and the ending was very moving. would definitely recommend and I will for sure check out another novel of hers, Sing, Unburied, Sing which is supposed to be great as well

    9/10
