I believe 99% of people don’t want to go to prison. It seems to be a horrible place that people want to avoid at all costs. Most who consider committing a crime will think about it more than once because of the concept of prison.

In s society where rehabilitation facilities have replaced prisons, don’t you think people will be more likely to commit crimes? Like somebody might say: “Man I have a serious pedofilia problem, I need to get some psychological treatment, I could just get that right now but f*** it I’m just going to enjoy myself and rape children until I get caught up, then they’ll take me to a rehabilitation facility and I’ll be out as a better person.”

People already commit heinous crimes while knowing how horrible prison conditions are

OP thinks people are going to think twice about committing crimes knowing they’re getting a nice rehabilitation center where they can have their needs catered to all day

    It’ll increase crimes

Please show some studies that back this claim up

I dont think so. Especially once we've removed a lot of conditions for ppl to commit crimes anyway

Oh so your concept applies only to the hypothetical case in which a lot these conditions have already been removed.

I can't imagine why they'd want to. Like I said tho thered be some med professionals and maybe some elected community members supervising the facility

You cant imagine why a criminal wouldnt care about being rehabilitated and would want to leave from this situation where they are forced to do so?

  • May 29, 2020

Not about making them think twice. It's about removing factors that lead to crime

Idk I dont think thered be much crime

wait... if there’s no prison there’s no crime ...and if there’s no crime there’s no police ....and if there’s no police there’s no one to enforce the law ...and if there’s no law we’re lawless

Yes. The abolition of prison and jails wont happen under capitalism.

You can call it what you want but prison has very clear implications

Well that makes sense. It applies in your utopia. Of course, anything that’s necessarily ugly in the world can be removed in a beautiful utopia.

But since we’re not there yet, prisons are NOT an outdated concept. Not yet.

However we can easily move to a more rehabilitation centered approach rn. But a capitalist system does nothing to remove root causes of crime so all these questions ppl are asking are more pertinent under capitalism

    It’s still a f***ing prison

Just because you want upscale confinement for bad people doesn’t mean it’s not a prison

Just say you want better prison conditions and lock this edgy ass attention seeking thread

Ok so then I’m guessing that you would admit that if we remove prisons and replace them with rehabilitation facilities RIGHT NOW, meaning WITHOUT getting rid of capitalism and WITHOUT eliminating a lot of the conditions that make people commit crimes, then that would be a disaster, right?

No itd prolly be better but the issue would be is the conditions for crime to exist would still be there so in that situation I'll say there might be a situation where things are overrun by ppl having committed petty crimes. Ppl would be much more prepared to reenter society upon release tho

by the way...you can't out-speak a mass murderer, rapist, child molester, terrorist, etc. into the right way of thinking

you're giving too much credibility to psychology and therapy, no amount of rehab is going to affect the mentality of these people

no amount of rehab is going to change the wrong doings or thought processes of someone who already is mindlessly murdering, raping, committing crimes

what is the thought process of treating someone to rehab who takes a machine gun and opens fire into a crowd of people? How do you "fix" this persons mentality?
