The opposite. Your opinion is correct and based.

    It’s so mid

He’s being nice tbh he knows Roc Nation/Jay Z f***ed him over by not letting him release FNL as his debut. Imagine your boss telling some other light skinned dude to your face to give you a hit lmao

Would be a cool song topic to discuss how their relationship formed, how it went during his run and where it is now

He looked like someone murdered his dog when he was on the stage for that Jay Z tidal press conference

    New song is aight

Honestly was hoping for more but that’s how I’ve felt about Cole his entire career. I was a huge fan back in 09 so I’ve been waiting for a breakthrough moment with his art that never came into fruition

There was a point when I thought he was gonna be top 5 status. He’s a legend in the game though and thats a hell of a feat considering the path he took

    Hope this album is decent

  • J Cole trying to distract us from AWGE day huh?

Do we know if Cole produced this?

Apparently was originally for Ye x Drake album so no

  • Wonder if he’ll do a disc produced just by him and one produced by others. There’s got to be some different between disc 1 and 2 thematically

I pray niggas can wake up one day and just take in art without comparisons. wasn’t thinking of Nas experiencing this, i was thinking of ā€œdamn, finally the first single from The Fall Off, we’re really hereā€ it’s a much more enjoyable experience and i see why comparisons are the thief of joy. song hasn’t been out even 24 hours and first comments are ā€œNAS REWINDā€

I mean. Even my coworkers immediatly thought Nas Rewind lol. What can you do? Your concept will be compared to the greats if you're making your attempt.

It’s not an issue that the concept has been done - how many rap songs have been made using a girl as a metaphor for something else (I Used to Love H.E.R., Homecoming, Gloria, etc.) and it’s still good.

What I found boring here was that Cole didn’t do anything novel with the concept - it was too literal. When the track started, I thought there’d be some commentary on the changes in his life from fame to coming up to his childhood or whatever, but instead it was literal stuff like ā€œbaby go back in stomachā€ and ā€œI’m growing shorterā€. That is exactly what Nas did on Rewind so it’s not as interesting here.

It’s also just boring narratively. It’s not interesting to hear about someone who is born, gets married, has kids and dies. The story on Rewind is like a scene from a mafia movie in reverse and has the twist of the shooting at the start of the track being set up at the end.

Also, Rewind was just a quick throwaway track and more of a fun story than anything. Cole releasing it with a music video to build hype for his album he’s been promoting for half a decade is anticlimactic.

I know this is overthinking the whole thing but it just really feels like a boring take on the concept and I don’t understand why he chose this as the first track to release. If it was a random song on the album, whatever. But this should be his best foot forward.
