"puerto rican music is mainly consumed by puerto ricans"
"yes this only occurs because people in the US are racial obsessed"
fascinating look into the mind of the avg euroid
didn’t read thread so i might rehash talking points but yeah indie rock does not feel like the cultural force it was even in ~2015.
i saw that courtney barnett’s “sometimes i sit and think” turned 10 the other day and i remember back when it came out it seemed to be making tons of noise past the level of artist she was before it.
i can’t think of a recent “indie rock” album that has crossed over into actually charting on billboard. the era of people like her or st vincent blowing up seems to be behind us.
i really thought courtney barnett was the one when she dropped that album
time flies lmao
"White people music" is definitely a thing and a lot of indie music would be classified as that by a lot of people. It's not that serious
I remember Arcade Fire winning the AOTY Grammy
Jay-Z talking about Grizzly Bear
Lupe sampling Modest Mouse
Beyoncé interpolating Yeah Yeah Yeahs and AnCo
Kanye x Bon Iver collabs
indie doesn't have that type of pull these days? although niche, it seems like back then there was a place in the mainstream for this type of music
nah because it doesn't feel real
most "indie" stars nowadays are just polished imitators of the raw rugged feel of that era you reminisce on. Even if I feel like the music is incredible, its a different appeal than in the 2000s, early 2010s
it would be relevant if that stuff got an audience but it hardly does
the dynamic is flipped on its head; artists are backed by multimillion dollar corporations and trying to come off as low-budget and indie. meanwhile the actual independent artists need to invest heavily in themselves, their quality, their promotion, and image in order to hope to stand out and build an audience
Ik ppl outside america whove dealt with a lot if racism. Its actually sort of intentionally denied by the masses. They probably should be MORE aware of racism and how it affects people
"americans are obsessed with race"
"no we're not derails a thread about indie music by telling him that he doesn't understand racism"
Been known that indie been more of a marketing term for 20 years but also there’s no stigma around hyper commercialization or being signed anymore so indie just continues to mean “somewhat weird or interesting but actually good”
