nobody asked you
Nobody asked for your lobotomized opinion on trap either
Yeah. I don’t like being pessimistic but realistically I don’t see an EM or a HOV in this current generation to hold the mantle in the meanwhile, it’s partially because a lot of these new acts are green as hell.
They will come though
Mainstream rap is done
Underground got some fire but the feeling barely there
Ngl he be rapping off beat. Can’tfw it
Its elaborate polyrhythm type s***
Early ‘00s would’ve been even more grim without Em and Hov @Elric
Outkast was taking care of it
People say this literally all the time.
Here's an article from 2007 saying the same s***.

Matter of fact, people were saying the Graduation vs. Curtis sales battle "saved" rap commercially though I'd argue Wayne played a bigger role.
We need the future Big 3 to step up already
Wont be unless they are as lyrical as Drake, Kendrick, and Cole.

The blogs were a band aid for less than 10 years
Nelly and Ludacris too
Nelly was my sisters music
Ludacris was funny but we're talking about really filling the void with astonishing music

Ludacris went toe to toe with Jada and Nas on a track.

1) The magic is 'gone' because more people are streaming music than ever before. Given that it takes a ridiculous amount of streams to count as a sale, sales will continue to plummet. Whether some on KTT like it or not, box office has always mattered when it came to crowning superstars in music
2) It's not a coincidence that as Drake / Kendrick / Cole started to age out, their replacements have ushered in trenches rap. Gangsta rap simply is not nearly as marketable as the package that Drake / Cole / Kendrick brought to the marketplace. The street era has created hip-hop stars but that doesn't translate to superstar worldwide.
3) Social Media normalizing celebrity and entertainers as a whole shouldn't be underrated.
808's came out in 08
SFG, Warm Up, came out in 09' Kush and OJ came out in 09'
TML and FNL came out in 2010 and so did other ancillary projects like Finally Famous the album, Wale, Big Sean, Wiz
It's simply much, much easier to package, produce, and push songs like Love lockdown, and Find Your Love from 'rappers' who are non threatening and can make crossover hits. Even My Last with Chris Brown.
The new rappers of today aren't as well rounded as the stars of the previous decade, and that's reflective in the general public's relative apathetic approach to Rap today.
We talk about how Hip-Hop can't create any new stars without acknowledging that guys from yesteryear were making elite, high level pop rap radio music. That's gone now, as rappers are too cool for those records and they're all from the trenches.
Complete cognitive dissonance to bring up Drake and that era when they were making records like Find Your Love, Cole with Work out, Wiz with Black and Yellow,

To be fair, hip hop wasn't really dominating the charts in 09-14 like it did when streaming took over. It had a safer image but Pop and EDM was still dominating the charts and you had this report too.

And rappers mainly crossed over with the help of pop and EDM collabs.
I agree that newer rappers aren't as marketable but it's more so because they lack crossover hits more so than their street image. Pop Smoke was street was had a strong hitmaking ability that crossed overseas and to people who didn't listen to drill.
Partly the fact that the biggest artist have been in the game for a while. Majority of the next gen that we’re making waves had past away.
And in my opinion. Honestly these new rappers popping up past half decade aren’t good at all I rarely be checking on new rappers. it’s mainly them too focused on floating on the beat and lacking lyrical presences and overall lack of discipline, they just care bout the glamour/ status/ fame /money of being a rapper and not serious bout the music or thought of their songs.

put some respect on ludacris' name nigga, he's a massively underrated rapper imo, bodied everyone on this s***

No one wants to acknowledge it but it’s really due to the fall of lyricism lol. That’s what makes the genre stand out from most others
