I like Cole too. And I think his last 3 albums are all really good but this is what holds them back a little for me

FHD was a loose concept like he did with his first two albums. It’s not s failed execution it’s just a loose concept. GKMC was different sonically and told more stories.
4YEO was built around him having a daughter and his friend passing away.
That’s totally different from TPAB and that production wasn’t anywhere in the same realm.
Kendrick has funk, jazz, neo soul, a little reggae.
Cole stuck to his usual guns.
FHD is way more conceptual than the first 2. I’ll give it to you that it’s not as obvious for those two albums but KOD and DAMN is the most egregious
