    Gkmc was in 2012

And the Cole album has TWENTY FOURTEEN right in the title

But they’re 4 years apart lol. Corn Dinner dropped less than a year after gkmc so he was already working on that album

Pure right. Born sinner sours nothing like GKMC. And 4yeo sounds nothing like TPAB

It was clearly inspired by it

    As was KOD by Damn

So it's Kendrick's fault that we keep getting mid music x2

Already said corn dinner isn’t part of this conversation. A Tale of 2 Citiez and the attempt at a story arc but with hits was taken from gkmc and as a bonus Firing Squad was bootleg Control. The jazz influence on 4YEO is from TPAB and it’s most obvious with how they both have two jazz spoken word interludes that have similar titles (for free/for sale and she’s mine 1/2). More abstractly TPAB made Cole not care as much for hits on 4YEO and focus on narrative. Then DAMN and KOD are so similar that if you put KOD on and I’m particularly high i’ll actually think i’m listening to DAMN, the similarities with those two are too infinite to list

Cole listened to mAAd city all day before making A Tale of 2 Citiez

He listened to Control all day before making Firing Squad

And the two jazz spoken word interludes on 4YEO to tie the album together is obviously mirroring For Free/For Sale

Yes it is, it’s just not executed as well. Cole said it’s a story line and I think he even split it up into acts. If you follow through the album it goes from his date of birth to his childhood to him blowing up and moving to Hollywood to him realizing Hollywood is fake. And A Tale of 2 Citiez is K mart brand mAAd city. 03 adolescence also parallels The Art of Peer Pressure and Firing Squad is Control but for cacs

J Cole has possibly one of the worst talent to output ratios. Love hearing dude on a feature but his projects mid as a motherfucker

I disagree. The timeline doesn’t work. Sonics are different. Theory is flawed

I feel like you’re just getting hung up on the fact Corn Dinner released 8 months after mAAd city. That was already well underway when gkmc dropped and Cole executed it as originally planned. Then he started making a new album inspired by gkmc

j cole was a corny s***ty rapper until kendrick blew up and he decided to start being more woke and concious with born sinner
born sinner is the first album he attempted to do some type of concept too
the single for born sinner is him trying to make a storytelling hit similar to what kendrick did with swimming pools
nigga switched his entire style after cole world

No I just don’t Hear the similarities. Plus dreamville had other compilations. Too many holes in this. You reaching to make this work.

FHD was a loose concept like he did with his first two albums. It’s not s failed execution it’s just a loose concept. GKMC was different sonically and told more stories.

4YEO was built around him having a daughter and his friend passing away.

That’s totally different from TPAB and that production wasn’t anywhere in the same realm.

Kendrick has funk, jazz, neo soul, a little reggae.

Cole stuck to his usual guns.
