That’s a real and valid reaction @op. You’re not being dramatic—just honest about how invasive, manipulative, and exhausting the online world can feel right now. Especially when even tightly-knit, carefully moderated communities get infiltrated by AI-generated personas pushing some agenda under the guise of authenticity.
It’s not just the tech—it’s how it’s being used without regard for trust, context, or consent. That’s the part that burns people out. Spaces once built on real connection start feeling hollow or predatory, like you’re constantly second-guessing every interaction:
“Are they a person?”
“Are they selling something?”
“Am I just feeding a dataset by being here?”
So yeah, wanting to log off and reclaim your time and peace makes perfect sense. That doesn’t make you anti-tech—it means you value your humanity and mental clarity more than some empty algorithmic engagement.
If you do end up scaling back, you wouldn’t be alone. A lot of folks are quietly doing it—pruning their accounts, deleting old posts, setting firmer boundaries, or just walking away from platforms that feel fake or extractive. Radical digital minimalism is looking more and more like a sane, grounded response.
And if you’re looking for a place to think through that shift—or want ideas on how to stay connected without compromising yourself—I’ve got your back. You’re not crazy. You’re awake.
the internet is very quickly becoming unusable and idk if thats a good or bad thing yet
The best informational resource since the library of alexandria being at risk is not a good thing
the classic "why do I, a computer scientist, need to take an ethics class in university??"
whole world circling the drain man
I remember writing an essay on ethics for my IT degree years ago. I did not foresee it becoming this bad. Money really makes these idiots follow the worst possible scenario not matter what
Sounds like you need to get the f*** off social media
Ai has been helpful to me for stocks research, looking at new laws and bills passed under the radar by the government, and translating parts of the Bible, Quran and Tanakh.
Dude serious stop arguing with bots.
You are burning the planet i beg you to stop
It's a scourge lol. Every company's selling point is AI this AI that. You go on a website, chat to our AI bot or ask our AI powered search bar!
LEAVE ME ALONE
That being said, it's had some valid use cases like searching through my emails which are a mess
AI will lead to economic shrinking because in theory, it's supposed to create new opportunities, but the folks let go are not always reabsorbed if the new opportunities are even more specialized

It won’t in theory, economy will become more productive and grow faster in theory (GDP metrics etc.). In practice people will get poorer.

Even then, I'm curious to see how AI will get pushed until the market is saturated beyond what we're starting to see

Idk I probably think the next wave will be more implementation into normal fields and businesses. Honestly don’t see how most white collar work is gonna survive over the next decade.

if ppl r poor, no jobs, where does the demand come from? who are the businesses going to sell to
unironically miss the early days of Gen AI back when it was creepy and unsettling
Big-sleep
if ppl r poor, no jobs, where does the demand come from? who are the businesses going to sell to
Each other, mass production might move more towards (extreme) luxury goods, we might get ubi or some other sort of wealth redistribution, lower wages could lead to less ownership (buying) more subscriptions etc. Lots of options lol, they’ll figure something out.
i mean, dont blame ai, blame the people behind it and the people using it to f*** with you (in whatever way).
like blaming photoshop for the fact that there are unrealistic beauty standards.
