It's a tool that can be misused like anything else. There really is no going back though at this point no matter how any of us feels about it so you might as well learn to adapt and use it lol
you should check how "asking it for sources" is going for RFK Jr.'s bullshit MAHA health "report"
What
wikipedia is reliable since its articles are peer reviewed by plenty of different people and has tight moderation, it almost never gives you blatantly incorrect information and made up sources like chatgpt. its so easy for chatgpt to hallucinate and tell you some bullshit like 2+2=5, the "lol its boomer to critique AI" angle is so dumb
The hallucinations are definitely real for now but I would imagine that it would get better as time goes on and they continue to develop it. When wikipedia first dropped there was a bunch of nonsense information on there lol
What did you expect and what are you expecting for the future
what i originally liked about AI was this idea that we could take biases out of things. like take any question you have and let’s synthesize all of the data possible for it and based on every possible variable AI will present you with the closest unbiased approximation or as unbiased as any given data allows it. ive done work that tried to iron out certain biases just based on cold hard data. or let’s any basic repetitive task that is easy as 1+1=2 could be replicated by AI and be expanded to 2+2=4, etc be taken care of
i think AI isn’t gonna take over as many jobs as people think, I think it’s going to reward people with good soft skills and people skills, and i think it’ll reward creative people tbh. I do think the internet is gonna eventually get worse and social media is essentially gonna die aside from people directly communicating with each other and eventually nobody’s gonna trust media anymore

Your second paragraph is why despite me "glazing" AI in this thread, I am worried about where society will head towards. Distrust in media isn't really a good thing and everyone believing conflicting information will make society way worse. idk maybe there are unintended good things that happen but only time will tell

There r literally top AI scientists who think this could lead to the extinction of humans

AGI could potentially but idk how far down the line it will be or if it will actually ever happen. From what i know, LLMs arent anything close to "real" Intelligence. Either way in a global society like we live in now it will require international effort to stop it and i just dont have hope for that lol

Imo chatgpt has achieved a weak form of AGI. It knows most STEM topics better than most experts

But that's really just based on existing information online it isn't training itself

no its capable of synthesizing entire research plans without just regurgitating information from online. its capable of critical thinking. to think its just essentially a search engine is to be completely ignorant to how it works. its literally learning concepts by connecting different ideas together in a de novo way
if chatgpt was a glorified search engine it couldnt synthesize entire essays on any topic or break down the essential concepts of a paper or book etc
theres AI as a real use case to streamline repetitive and mundane tasks, and theres whatever wrapper bullshit people are putting out these days. we're just in a gold rush era where people are running around trying to sell you this life changing AI tool because your average person still doesn't know how it works.

Why not just read a book.
There r literally top AI scientists who think this could lead to the extinction of humans
That would be a plus for the planet.
I'm sure there's a dark web side of things where they use AI for lord knows. Like an evil chatgpt or programming it to cause chaos & irreversible damages
