yes extreme poverty has decreased, however capitalism for it to work requires mass inequality

honestly i don't care if there is relative inequality because system makes people more hungry to climb the social ladder but i support unions, ubi, welfare & worker co ups (maybe) to improve equality

Yeah bro you agree with me

I support capitalism but measures to make things better to live like ubi and universal healthcare.

    That's still capitalism

no, capitalism requires endlessly increasing growth and profits which are tightly coupled to resource use. we have already overshot planetary resource boundaries and continuing to do so will break civilization

you have to cap resource use and use the state to transition industries to sustainable practices, and at that point its not exactly a free market.

plus basic logic will tell you that a market solution isnt possible, 8-10% yearly cuts in emissions (what the IPCC says we need for the next decade) don't happen in this system unless your economy collapses lol

No you can still grow by increasing efficiency instead of just increasing production

why not just support something that you know, makes things much better instead of just applying band aid measures to a system of global inequality

Right. Its amazing to me that ppl say they want these solutions but avoid the fact that capitalism is creating the problems

Look - I’m for welfare & a supportive government if you’re down bad, including all it’s services & programs.

but if you expect money for doing absolutely nothing, I will want to watch you beg as I burn 100$ bills in your face.

Money for doing nothing is a huge strawman

i think the whole "people mooching off the system" thing is a farce. now that i am on social security disability after a life threatening and seeing how hard it is to get this stuff (even with left side paralysis), i don't see all these people finessing the system and doing "nothing"

also, the SSDI i get per month is calculated based off of how much i've worked in my life and essentially put back into the system. in order to get these supplements you have to have tax history, so the getting paid for nothing is ridiculous then right?

100%, I’m from Canada and we believe in paying people who are down bad (we literally just gave $2000 a month for the last 6 months to EVERYONE who needed it due to COVID, s*** was crazy even for our standards).

if you lose your job or get debilitated, 100% your government should help you out, no questions asked there, we’re on the same page.

It’s just how I was raised though. I don’t believe in coddling, therapy or safe-spaces. I was taught to claw for everything & work 12 hours if need be. I’m an extreme example, but my views don’t align with anything other than capitalism.

Idk what to feel anymore, congratulations. Another productive gear out of the system. Maybe now we won’t colonize space, establish AI dominance, progress humanity. I can’t wait for us all to go back to the stone ages. Ain’t no system bih.

it's fundamentally impossible for most people to understand what socialism or communism actually refers to in a practical sense because of decades upon decades of colloquial discourse and information removed from the original concept or idea. it's the same with other political terms like "populism" or "fascism" meaning something different colloquially in conversation than in actual sole political philosophy/theory. a lot of people have come to associate terms like "socialism" or "communism" with an ideas melded from a variety of sources or ideas from proclaimed practical applications and commentary rather than the original concept itself. i genuinely think this is why we have to stop use terms that refer to collective umbrellas of ideas and just talk about the underlying practical applications separate from the ideology because otherwise modern political conversation is genuinely completely useless
