if we're being realistic this was always gonna happen, streaming listeners don't f*** with his pop sound like that. MDM is still his strongest streaming performance relative to how many songs there were on it. he has no other option but to make echoes of silence 2.
the other option is to keep doing what he wants to do and making what he wants to make
If more people don’t know the album is out, less people will stream.
If he sold more with less songs on an album that people "were aware" off and sold 20k less on an album with more songs that people supposedly weren't aware off where would these other people that didn't hear it come from.
The narrative that promo prevents people from listen to music is bs. Word of mouth is enough to push an album first week. People that didn't know he dropped by Monday the next week would have found it. Anyone that heard afterhours first week heard dawn fm
Reeks of racism??
Man if you don’t take that woke s*** or whatever you’re on to Twitter. Don’t be accusing me of racism you clown.
We need mainstream acts that don’t follow the crowd. It’s the difference between mid like CLB/Live Life Fast and greatness like TPAB, 4:44, The Off Season, CTRL, And Dawn FM.
I f*** with those artists individually, but seeing them on the tracklist of every album makes me sick. You already know what it’s gonna sound like. Rarely does it ever make a good album.
Mfer tried sneaking Dawn FM
there's just no way 300-400k can be a flop in 2022. the game is all f***ed up
Look at the HDD sales thread for 30.
Reality is a foreign concept to a lot of people on here.
nigga made his money and will continue to make plenty. i think it's about a little more than streams at this point
that isn't to say that success doesn't matter tho. it's always gonna matter
the other option is to keep doing what he wants to do and making what he wants to make
and sell 50k first week? no thank you. he needs to think of my needs as a stan who lives vicariously through his success and spends 12 hours a day defending his numbers to online strangers.
ok i did some quick research like 2 minutes in wiki articles. circles spent 39 weeks in the top 10 which was the record until blinding lights spent 40. then levitating spent 41 weeks in the top 10 breaking that record.
don't start now spent a year on the chart. say so has so much stats that i can't even be bothered to use the effort to find the weeks on the chart.
what we talkin bout? lol
That doesn’t explain the overwhelming success of BL and also The Box. Sure those songs will chart, after all the charts don’t go away because a pandemic started. Those spots have to be filled. My point is those songs did not have a fair chance to compete with BL. Artist basically just had to send a social media post for promo and that’s it. Weeknd had his full promo going for AH leading up to February when the pandemic started. Other artist that year did not have the benefit to gain traction in album promo or tour promotion. A lot of heavy hitters decided not to drop because of that.
To use Drake as an example, that’s why he decided to drop an album full of loosies instead of a full album release like CLB.
Lol you have to compare to their previous sales. Beyonce has never sold that well. Think she has more #2 albums than 1s. Dot maybe but at the same time you can't compare the sales climate of then to now
They literally dragged Adele for doing the big number that she did because she didn’t do 2011 and 2015 numbers on here tho.
Drake stans saying “H&M music” is hilarious to me like please explain what Gods Plan is lol
Drake makes music that is palatable to that crowd too but I can’t compare God’s Plan to these 80s pop tracks, Weeknd music is much safer and more generic, the beats alone, when they come on it’s like “am I really listening to this right now”
Niggas asking for old weeknd too like it ain't gonna be the same reception. Niggas cant win lol

Shut the f*** up drakes music is way more generic
How did y'all manage to argue about this for 165 pages
drake stans mad the weeknd made a more critically acclaimed project than the tiktok stuff they listen to
After Hours and BL were clowned on here when they came out. Wouldn’t cry victory yet, if I was drake stans. Watch Secrets become a hit in 2 months lol
This just proves once and for all, American charts are outdated. International the way to go now ✍🏽
You have a better chance of winning the lottery than Secrets becoming a hit in 2022

Because radio
Nah he really hasn’t
He can take risks for a song or two but he tries to serve 10 different groups on each album and it results in a discography post 2015 where people add the 3-4 songs targeted to them on his album and delete the rest
He needs to commit to a full project
I also wouldn’t mind if Drake focused on an album in a different way
But I fail to see how serving all those different audiences with one project isn’t a risk in itself. Who else can do that and still have people say that the album is too safe?

Gods Plan is literally the safest music you can possibly create
Quincy didn’t even do any production
I’m aware but just to have his name and I guess the whole album kinda paying homage to a certain style of Michael. If you told me he was gonna do this album last year I would just expect it to be an absolute smash on the charts and would beat gunna?
Shut the f*** up drakes music is way more generic
Completely disagree, seems like a crazy opinion to me. Weeknd put out an entire album of Rick Astley music
After Hours and BL were clowned on here when they came out. Wouldn’t cry victory yet, if I was drake stans. Watch Secrets become a hit in 2 months lol

i can see why people would have the most exaggerated expectations for adele, even tho she performed as well as she was supposed to these days
but kendrick selling 300-400k after 4-5 years would be a triumph. he ain't adele or taylor
