I feel like all the s*** finna implode eventually, niggas even ruining old clothes with the whole archivebeast s***, not to mention a lot of the s*** I be seeing from brands I used to idolize feels low effort compared to the s*** they used to put out

Can you name some of these brands? I feel like there’s a lot dope s*** out there but nothing just really impresses me anymore.(Balenciaga Couture being one of the few exceptions) But yeah, way too many people who wouldn’t know about this stuff without the internet and hype.

I’m not a 100% on this but I think I was in 9th grade around 2016, I got a pair of black slim jeans, hit the sale section on bodega and opening ceremony and got a shoe rotation out the Nike outlet sale section s*** had me fresher than most of the niggas in my grade

You just gotta know how to move lol

I think I wore a lot of Supreme, Richardson, Palace and whatever Nikes I could get my hands on, supreme was already on a decline from what I had heard from the older niggas around me but even then, the graphic placement or what piece of clothing they chose to do felt like it had more than a couple seconds of thought into it, same goes for Richardson, and with Nike most of the interesting things they do nowadays are just collabs and most of the time those fall short at least to me

  • Aug 18, 2021

I know none of its crazy s*** but it’s a lil depressing to see the s*** you used to like just slide into mediocrity, except for the cool thing they push out every now and then

Supreme definitely fell off, they have their moments but they fell off imo. My taste might’ve matured tho,Palace was more impressive as well looking back and Nike is just doing rehashes of classics, same shoe, different color.

Honestly I feel like fashion in general has become a lot more corporate, it feels like most of the s*** that happens is just because they know it’ll work, even on the higher end of things it’s like how interesting or nice the clothing is an afterthought

Social media made it this way,it made everything about status and made it hard to be an enthusiast of a lot of stuff, not just clothing.

Let’s just say something like retro video game collecting, that’s starting to be plagued by ridiculous resell prices. And not even just retro, just video games in general, like the PS5 shouldn’t be as hard as it is to get. But as for clothing/fashion in general,I think the next evolution should be a de-evolution.

Nike,Supreme and a lot of these luxury labels should really make people have an active account with them, barely sell anything really noteworthy online, make people purchase a (digital)catalog with all the good stuff and make them order stuff over the phone where they’ll have to verify an account and only be able to buy one piece of whatever they want.

I don’t think a system like that would necessarily kill the resell/hype market but it would slow it down buy alot. Get rid of the digital purchasing and add some human element when it comes to purchasing luxury goods again.

I mean that definitely would fix a lot of the overconsumption thats going on right now but at the same time would that shut out the younger people who want to get into fashion, or just anybody, I feel it would turn into an insiders club really quick, not to mention brands would most definitely send out free catalogs to influencers and stuff like that

Would you rather have to join a raffle for the chance to actually buy the thing you want? Anyways, you have plenty brands like Chanel,Hermès etc that only sell their clothes in-store,that’s even worse than what I’m suggesting.

You right but at the same time,a system like that would definitely make resellers work harder. There’s definitely already insider clubs with this raffle s*** Nike is doing tho.

Oh yeah for sure, I still fall out every time I think about the fact that a reseller went on bloomberg and outed himself, and then his mom lost her job at Nike

I'm about to fall asleep so topline: you can't expect "humanity" to be a pillar in a capitalist society, especially in a sector in which sales/the bottom dollar is the loudest and strongest talking point. Yes, in a perfect world it would be nice if us commoners, but serious buyers could set up accounts and have 1 on 1 time with brand reps etc etc but you have to understand, as long as the product's moving...Nike/Supreme/LV/whomever could care less about who's on the other side receiving sold item lol. And there's no way they finna put a 1 per caller embargo in favor of the whole drop selling out in 5 seconds lol.

The setup you're referring to also exists btw on the high end scale: "VIPs." Regular rich folk who spend thousands at Dior, Chanel etc. each season and are rewarded with first dibs on drops. ALD has a similar community setup as well.

Only selling in store + and/or limiting online presence is not a bad thing. For some, it's a strategy that keeps the brand integrity intact. For others like a Hermes it fits their business model since RTW doesn't make up a sizable percentage of sales in comparison to bags/accessories etc. It's not worth tainting the brand name power. Obviously post pandemic that's shifted: I remember Dries used to keep his circulation pretty tight, but now his stuff is out there.

I'd say grind and finesse homie. Get the right gig that'll set you up for future success and it'll be your time down the rode. In the meantime, it is what it is. Also developing the "VIP type" rapport with employees doesn't hurt if you can. But don't get fooled by the PR "we're tryna fix bots talk." Suits are cashing out every Saturday SNKRs is trending. The day that changes, they'll revisit. There's no "humanity" in capitalism unfortunately.

You right,it’s all about a dollar, not how they make it. I guess catalog buying wouldn’t be headline worthy vs a product selling out in seconds where most of it was sent out the back door or swallowed by bots. As a consumer who likes nice clothing, you just wanna be able to walk in the store, spend the money and call it a day. There was already a certain amount of politics in high end clothing but now it’s just ridiculous.

The pandemic, the fluctuation of people getting hip to luxury clothing and brands needing to control who gets the product to control brand image is basically what’s going on. Some people make the money to shop but don’t have the luxury of time to always be out shopping man, time is worth more than money imo,I wouldn’t mind getting first dibs on gear but I still wouldn’t say it’s 100% fair if I had that access.
