ayo why tf the taliban got drip??? 💀💀💀
asix? is that a drake asics collab
You right,it’s all about a dollar, not how they make it. I guess catalog buying wouldn’t be headline worthy vs a product selling out in seconds where most of it was sent out the back door or swallowed by bots. As a consumer who likes nice clothing, you just wanna be able to walk in the store, spend the money and call it a day. There was already a certain amount of politics in high end clothing but now it’s just ridiculous.
The pandemic, the fluctuation of people getting hip to luxury clothing and brands needing to control who gets the product to control brand image is basically what’s going on. Some people make the money to shop but don’t have the luxury of time to always be out shopping man, time is worth more than money imo,I wouldn’t mind getting first dibs on gear but I still wouldn’t say it’s 100% fair if I had that access.
haha yeah this world isn't fair but continues to spin. We all just have to be grateful with what's in reach and strive for more if that's our calling.
It's always been heavy politics -- fashion's core is a vehicle to further alienate "high society" from regular/lower class off optics. Just YouTube a Versace 90's fashion show lol or read about CK 90's marketing. Brands selling you a packaged lifestyle right.
I think where it gets murky and screwed up today is high fashion trying to stake claim in streetwear and "urban" tropes, while keeping and/or upping the price point on said designs/product. So the cats who made it pop no longer can afford to participate/have access to "theirs." There's no way these fruit loops J's that would otherwise sit in outlets 5 years ago should be selling for a premium on Stockx. Mans can't even cop mainline Nike bball shoes without paying extra $80, so I get your frustrations.
My issue is the social implications: for these brands: you can't overnight embody an essence that's the opposite of your brands's heritage + established consumer. Yet, by pouching the Virgil's of the world and having him reintroduce dapper dan type designs celebrated by the hood, they've been able to infiltrate. And once you let in the party that has the $$$ power ie LVMH/Nike's of the world, they're able to control the narrative. That's where we're at today. Niggas wanna be Black, but don't nobody wanna be Black.
Back to your point though, I believe HOMER is in-store/catalogue phone orders only for now. Will be interesting to see how that pans out in the long run.

This may sound harsh regarding Virgil but dude is basically the slave that got to work in the house and he’s putting all the luxury brands up on game regarding urban fashion/culture. High end anything has always had some sort of politics and classism included with it cause it wasn’t meant for us. Like,if it wasn’t for social media,Allessandro would’ve got away with stealing Mr.Dapper Dans designs,so it wouldn’t be surprising to find out that Gucci/LV to name a few, have been stealing designs from unknown minority designers for ages.
And then these brands inflate their prices like crazy. The counterfeit market is booming nowadays, there’s so much fake clothing now but so much access to these luxury brands. And you usually couldn’t catch Balenciaga or Gucci on sale but now you can,it shows the prices now are compensating for something. You have a brand like Acne that’s expensive but not unreasonably priced and never go on sale like that unless the brand does one themselves, same with Stussy.
So yea, fashion has always been riddled with elitism but there’s definitely a panic in the air in that industry. It’s like high fashion has been compromise through social media and people know who shouldn’t know and now the industry lost because of it. As for HOMER,that should be a cool experiment,I hope Frank is able to pump out some dope s***.

not harsh, it's reality: "new slaves"
It's funny bc if you go on mans IG, it's only these white "stylists"/personalities/influencers giving Virgil props and his circle of yes men on payroll (Theophilus still yelling off white this off white that last I checked lol). The question is what's your price for selling out?
Within our collective Black experience I think we all know "Virgils." It's just super depressing that today's youth, who are already predisposed to the sheep mentality and seeking validation via societal conditioning seem to think Virgil's the pinnacle of Black excellence when we're looking at a grown African American man tap dancing for Arnault and co. Upselling the culture and parading his "lectures" and "collaborations" as a universal "us" win, when in reality you're on a leash. And those opportunities are being set up not necessarily off merit, but because of who's pulling the strings behind the scenes/affiliation/using you to reach the Black demo. But that's a rant for another day lol.
Ye couldn't be that guy, and he's made it work for himself. I don't think Frank could be that guy, either and hopefully he's able to establish his own "Yeezy"/"Fenty." Excited to see how he builds HOMER and the Prada union.
The industry panic I'm sensing is niggas are FINALLY waking up to the idiocy of paying a premium off a "brand name." Unless you're a ball player/football wife on vacay/rapper/have $$ to waste, there's really no reason to be spending $400 or whatever for a "VLTN" tee lol.
Filter through the POV of diversity, why can't I redirect that $$$ back towards my own community/uplifting a Black designer. It's the same cotton t shirt, that says "YSL" big whoop. Idk about gen z crowd, but I think millennials with buying power are moving on from that "flex," and sales are starting to reflect that. ESPECIALLY in a post pandemic world. Just my take.

Kids nowadays really want to believe in change but don’t have that same type and courage people in the past did. They know Virgil is a black man and the first black menswear director at LV,he’s made history(on paper)to them cause he’s checking boxes. Kanye wanted that dream but when he finally got some independence for his self,I think he seen it wasn’t really worth it anymore to beg the establishment to get put on. I think Virgil knows exactly what he’s doing,he’s tied into the Hip Hop audience and LV seen Hip Hop start to be the #1 trend,it only made sense.
As for Gen Z seeing through the game,I think it’s true but at the same time,I think they f*** with luxury more than any other generation, they just don’t value the real deal. Some people get their whole outfits off Aliexpress these days, they value luxury but they refuse to pay the price.
loll

Decided to wait a lil bit for the Polo Bear since it’s not even really Fall yet and since Supreme didn’t drop their football jersey this week,I did one better and copped an authentic
mitchellandness.com/authentic-ray-lewis-baltimore-ravens-jersey-ajy6sb1-2
Always f***ed with this Ravens jersey and was afraid they’ll sell out of the large(44). Quality on these are impeccable and some of the cleanest pieces of clothing out of the box you can get.
The freshest I’ve ever seen Notorious BIG,had to be his last magazine cover too cause this came out in 1997.

last one the hardest imo, drops tomorrow apparently
My Jersey came in today and I continue to be impressed by these authentic jerseys. You don’t even have to these pieces outta the plastic to understand how high quality they are and no,I did not take mine out the plastic yet lol
I think NFTs are extremely corny and bad but I thought the complex sneakers pod might have some good discussion on it wrt shoes this week but like 5 mins into it and Bobby hundreds just saying generic s*** we've all seen online a million times over
OK it got a lil better
Man,I remember a Popeye editorial where it was like different dudes at a table wearing different suits from Tom Ford,Purple Label,Thom Browne,Gucci etc and it was one of the freshest editorials with suits I’ve ever seen. Every look was pure class
I can’t find this editorial anywhere tho but it always stick out in my head. It was just dudes sitting at a restaurant table for two in the best suits I’ve ever seen.
Just posting random Popeye pics I think are dope in this thread
They got some of the best styling on the planet for their magazine
my friend got posted on hypebeast
https://hypebeast.com/2021/8/esenes-worldwide-creamsta-sneaker-release-date

I swore the entire culture was about to die out 5-6 months ago when Gary Vee and Aphex were hyping this s*** up at the same time. Was staring into the existential abyss like a mad man we really moved on from that 5 week cesspool
