NATO promised not to expand into Eastern Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union. It shouldn’t even exist in the first place. It was always a justification to expand the U.S empire and the fear of Stalinist Communism was just an excuse. It lost its function in the 90’s.

This is 7 years old and just as relevant

So right off the bat he's asked by a European about Ukraine and Russia but goes off on the gargantuan whataboutism about something America did literally a century ago if he's still rattled about that how does he not understand that Russia is still a threat after 1990? That really is terrible that NATO pushed a few inches East after they said they wouldn't and became a puppet for US interests but you do understand how far Russia pushed West when they had power? It was more than a few inches. As I've said I know a lot of Eastern Europeans and they would all gladly take America over Russia

I think all you gotta read from Fidelio's posts on this page is that none of the context is in any way justification for what Putin is doing

NATO is terrible. No question. Then again, it's imperialism. S*** like this happens in this type of global economic system. It's rather important to find a way of univeral global corporation like the UN to actually find peace. Then again, that would require fundamental axioms of economy to change.

Whataboutism is the worst term that any politically minded person has ever learned.

How did I know this was going to be the extent of your response way to address the actual topic

But for real why does he think he needs to explain the history of America doing wrong to a Brit that's asking about Ukraine and Russia we are all aware of Cuba, Mr Chomsky

It’s not whataboutism to contextualize the material and historical circumstances that led to something happening. The history of U.S. foreign policy post the collapse of the Soviet Union is integral to understanding the Russian and Ukrainian conflict. Highlighting what happened in Cuba is just an attempt to put it into perspective.

It is when you literally only compare it to show how bad the other side is as well. It wasn't contextualizing anything to compare America's foreign policy 110 years ago to now.

What do you suggest we do? Do you agree with sanctions or you do think we should have boots on the ground?

New Charli album shaping up to be kinda boring. New songs are all okay but they sound like they could have been made by anyone, none of that distinctive Charli magic

Love the part in the Kanye doc where he plays Through The Wire for Pharrell and the dudes so blown away that he’s talking about the wires in his mouth when the chorus hits a second time that he leaves the studio and comes back to say Kanye’s a genius.
